Will Vivaldi keep Autoplay under the user's control?
-
I was just reading this article on The Register which goes into detail about changes Google has introduced to Chrome, which have been heavily criticised by users, where the decision on whether videos autoplay can no longer be directly controlled by the user; and instead is decided "on their behalf" based on a user's behaviour and whether the content itself meets certain criteria:

I wanted to ask what the Vivaldi Team's response is to these changes and their plans for Vivaldi going forward. I hope for reassurance that Vivaldi will continue to give its users the choice over whether video and audio content should be played by default.

I am controlling it with an extension. Was it ever under the user's control without an extension?

@Crimsonshade Never say βnever,β but they are not currently working on it, though it is one of the top feature requests:
Option to Disable Autoload and Autoplay of HTML5 Videos
Maybe someone could test this page for me and see if one video stops playing when you start playing another one. For me, it works as expected on Stable, but not on the latest Snapshot
(VB-52322) Autopause on Embedded Videos does not work

Yes they do.

Linux Open Suse 15.1 (also 1 stable behind the latest) -
They don't.
Vivaldi Stable 3.3.2022.45 (latest)
Ubuntu Mate 16.04.7 LTS -
@Pesala I had missed that feature request. Thanks for the link
@Streptococcus Could you inform me which extension you use? -
