Is there a way to show a "new tab" extension on the Speed Dial menu?

  • So the speed dial is ok, but I use "new metroTab" extension on chrome. However. . . "new tab" extensions are quite literally thrown under the bus. The speed dial "app" (for lack of a better word) replaces "vivaldi://newtab" and, unless I missed something, there doesn't seem to be any way to get o that functionality without a bookmark . . . which pretty much defeats the purpose. Have I missed something? Is there some way to add the new page functionality somewhere? A perfect solution would be to be able to add URLs to the Speed Dial page on the level of Bookmarks and History, and assign which speed dial tab is default. Then, not only would New Tab extensions be usable, but suddenly Chrome Apps can be brought to the fore.

Speed Dial is really nowhere close to finished. Most of its functionality is yet to be written. However, each speed dial thumbnail is, at heart, just a bookmark. So for now at least, there is no way to run an extension in speed dial. This could change in time.

  • To make it clear, I'm not concerned about having extensions on the Speed Dial page. My query was about new tabs, and specifically about the url vivaldi://newtab which is the default new tab url, but is overridden by the Speed Dial.

However, if it's incomplete as of yet, I'll take devs word for it.

I'm not a Dev. I've just been following the browser daily since it first came out.

Now that I more clearly understand what you're talking about, I think there's every possibility that what you are looking for could come around, but as Vivaldi is trying to brand itself as different and unique, and the heir-apparent to Opera 12, my guess it that things which make it more like other Chromium-based browsers will receive less attention, and things which set it apart from the rest of the Blink-verse will receive more attention.
