Take a break – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2020.3

  • @kened: You can do it with cut and paste on right mouse click. That's the way i like it...

  • Moderator

@kened: You can drag it to the folder indicator at the top to get it out of there. 😉

  • @Christoph142 I tried, created a folder, moved the last 2 thumbs in it, went to the folder by clicking it, moved back the 2 thumbs to the main SD page by dragging them to the top folder indicator, and now all my speed dial thumbnails got reordered in an apparently random order, it will take some minutes to reorder them, via the bookmarks panel, because it's an hell using the SD drag and drop, the moved thumbs gets swapped where I don't want them 😃
I'd better not touch this ever again. What a mess.

    @kened I guess you are a copy&paste 🤖 robot.
    You duplicated my post.

  • what about VB-70814?

  • @kened said in Take a break – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2020.3:

Nice feature to drag into Speed Dial folder. But now the bookmarks was stuck in folder.
Waiting for more drag&drop from/to speed dial folders.

That's why the upvote hand exists.

  • Trying to update from 3.3.2009.3 and the check for updates in the menu nothing happens with Automatically Download and Install Updates enabled. If I wait a few minutes and then manually restart Vivaldi the auto update works.

    macOS 10.15.6

Something similar happened to me on my Win7 32bit PC, the systray icon didn't react when I clicked on it. I manually terminated the update_notifier.exe task, and checked for updates via the help/update menu, at that point the popup appeared (but below all other windows as usual instead of being forced to foreground) and the patch got downloaded and installed.
No other problems so far. We'll see next update.

  • Nice work on the break mode, I dig it.

Nice work on the break mode, I dig it.

It does not replace a Boss Key though, as the Vivaldi UI is still in focus.

  • A few additional things I noticed for break mode:

    • After ending a break the UI always has focus, which means keyboard shortcuts won’t affect the current webpage until it is being focused by click or focus page shortcut.

    • The break webpage background color seems to default to the background of the webpage. This looks strange for light pages with a dark theme and dark pages with a light theme. Moreover if you got a bunch of tabs open with different backgrounds, switching tabs while in break mode will change the background of the pages inconsistently, meaning not all of the time. In my opinion it would be neat to just set the background of the webview on break for all pages to the theme background color, independent from webpage.

Assign a mouse gesture to Break Mode for ease of access.

I wonder if this one will actually launch for me? [not yet come thru from 'herecura', so atm speculation is all i have].

@Steffie said in Take a break – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2020.3:

i still remain stuck on 3.3.2001.3. Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Updated fine here via herecura 🤣 🤭

Just tested the new break mode for a bit. Gotta say. It's another one of those features where you don't know you want it until someone tells you about it. Congrats Vivaldi Team

  • @MasterLeo29 This time, I didn't take a "break" to read the blogpost so I didn't notice the new feature. Thanks to your comment, I just discovered it.
    Wonderful!
    Thank you.

  • I want Vivaldi to startup or create a new tab/window with a Blank Page instead of HomePage or Start Page. Which is possible by selecting appropriately at "General->STARTUP->Startup with" and at "Tabs->TABS->New Tab Page". But the current snapshot annoyingly inserts an "about://blank" text at the address bar, which needs to be manually deleted every time.
    Please fix.

Of course it did -- you presumably have the luxury of not facing the nefarious southernhemisphereblocker flag that the Devs snuck into the last TWO Snapshots. 🤪

I'm now becoming quite worried about the next Stable, if the Devs have not fixed this terrible fault in these two+ Snapshots by then, & it then rolls into Stable, then all V's will be DoA for me, leaving me no choice but to indefinitely use obsolete versions, or change to FF-Nightly.

    EDIT, 2 hrs later.
After more testing, it's still a 100% failure-to-launch rate here, all with that identical error message Trace/breakpoint trap. As also for the previous Snapshot, my tests spanned 2 physical PCs [Tower & Laptop], one secondary-boot OS on Tower, & some VMs on Tower.

Today's distros tested: Arch, ArchLabs, SparkyLinux, SolydK.. ie, two archies, 2 debians.

Oh, also, today's Arch updates included the much awaited Chromium [browser] jump from 84 to 85. It launched just fine... ergo, it is not specifically C85 that has broken my latest two Snapshots.

    Bwaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Oh yes, & also same as with the last Snapshot:

    1. Two of these distros have never had a working V-Snapshot on them before, ie, atm [coz last & current SS fail to launch] the ~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot directory is completely empty, ie, no Default profile yet exists, ie, anyone who asks me if i remembered to test with a clean profile is missing the point. Eg, Lappy:
    steffie@xpsl501x[~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot] 13:28:03 Wed Aug 26 $> ls -m
    steffie@xpsl501x[~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot] 13:28:12 Wed Aug 26 $> ls
    steffie@xpsl501x[~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot] 13:28:15 Wed Aug 26 $> ls -h
    steffie@xpsl501x[~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot] 13:28:30 Wed Aug 26 $> ls -ah
    . ..
    steffie@xpsl501x[~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot] 13:28:36 Wed Aug 26 $>

    1. The Arch VM uses herecura.
    2. The ArchLabs VM uses AUR.
    3. The debians [Tower's 2nd-boot], Lappy's sole boot] obviously use entirely different packages to the archies.

Hence, same as i concluded in my testing of the previous borked Snapshot too, other than the fact that i live south of the equator i cannot find any commonalities across all my tests to indicate this is my fault, rather than an actually bad current & previous Snapshot.
