Freezes and downloads never finish
-
After I’ve downloaded a lot (about 70) of huge images all of a sudden the Save As dialog stopped to appear, and V became unresponsive, even focusing the address bar took several minutes. I had to force quit, installed the latest update, but this behavior is now permanent. The downloads list is now empty, and every download, now matter how big, gets stuck at 100% but never finishes.
Edit: Forgot to add that V takes over 100% CPU while doing this.
What can I do to troubleshoot this? Preferably without losing my settings and history.
Vivaldi 3.1.1929.48 (Stable channel) (64-bit)

OS macOS Version 10.15.5 (Build 19F101) -
Do you have an account on vivaldi? if you do, then uninstall then reinstall it then it will come working again. happened to me with chrome before. And once I did it, it came back running again.
By the way almost forgot, do not install updates when they show up!!! to install them, download the latest version from the site and uninstall the old version before installing the new one.

You mean Vivaldi sync? No, I don’t have that So it will lose everything if I uninstall and reinstall?
-
Yes, It Will.

@yusernamelol If you delete the application only, you won't lose your settings and history (those are stored in your profile).
-
I tried to delete the app only, after reinstalling it showed the same behaviour. I made a sync account, deleted everything, reinstalled and now the bug seems to have gone away, but all my history and setting like custom search engines and gestures are gone also, only a small part of settings were actually synced
Is there a file or folder that can be backed up so this doesn’t happen again?
-
@yusernamelol Your profile folder is at
/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Vivaldi
.
In your case, your profile was probably corrupted, that's why deleting the app only did nothing, while deleting all (profile included) solved the issue.
BTW, sync is not a back up. Don't rely on it for that purpose. -
Hm, I have a full system backup from a few days ago, replacing that folder with the one I backed up would restore my settings and history?
If I shouldn’t rely on sync, what can I do to back up? Clearly backing up a corrupted profile wouldn’t help much.

@yusernamelol As you found out, Sync doesn't sync all your settings. So, you have to back up your profile. Obviously, a backup of a corrupted profile is useless. You might find what corrupted your profile.
