Avoid updating to Windows version 2004 for now
-
Hi all,
I just wanted to share an advisory to not update to Windows version 2004 for now.
I did the upgrade through the normal means (via Windows Update) and I have encountered numerous problems so far:
- Windows no longer remembers credentials in apps like Office
- Vivaldi, which uses the credential store for some part like encrypting passwords, fails for likely the same reason
- There seem to be some issues loading drivers
- Modern windows apps have ended up being unresponsive to the mouse, requiring me to navigate with the keyboard
-
I have already updated to Windows 2004, but your described problems do not occur at all, fortunately.

@stardepp That doesn't bode well for me.
If it's just me experiencing the issues then microsoft is not ever going to fix it, and the root cause will never be found. Which means it may well happen to other people.
dejected sigh

@LonM Let we Nixers point you in the right direction, whereby you'll never again have to endure these redmond hassles.
Was gonna TeamViewer in to Dad's pc tomorrow to do my monthly maintenance on it. Knew that 2004 has begun rolling out, had already decided 80% to defer it from his box, am now 120% sure.
Good luck!

@Steffie I already use Kubuntu on my laptop. It's far easier to update, and I never encounter problems there.
(Not to say that Kubuntu is totally free of problems, it's just that updating is a less painful process).
Right now, I would be satisfied with finding a workaround so that I can inform others if they have the same problem. I assume the root cause won't ever be found.
Rest assured. If I could do without Windows, I would.
