Lazy loading
-
I hope an option will come in some future release.
I've been playing around with it a bit, and this looks like something that only occurs on startup. Opening a link in a background tab appears to load immediately.
I've also seen tabs that lay LONG dormant during a session get unloaded.
That can be changed via Automatic tab discarding in Vivaldi://flags

Chromium is supposed to have an option that says "Don't load tabs until selected" and if you uncheck that, it will fix this problem….
But I can't find the setting no matter how hard I search..... :S
Did the vivaldi devs remove that option?? -
I noticed another small thing: the adblock seems to slow page loading (it hooks and disable prefetch/preload chromium setting).
I noticed as I recently refreshed the profile, and I'm testing with another adblocker, adguard (Ublock Origin rarely failed to work well, and adblock plus… well.. use too ram, even for me xD).
Personally, I prefer the "load all opened tabs at the same time", but also an option to "load only when active" should be present.
However this pc is "too fast" to notice most of the slowdowns, I've to try also with an "old" dual core laptop I've -
1.0 is upon us and this blight is still here, with no solution in sight… sigh. Are they trying to be as stubborn/dismissive as Opera?
For crying out loud, It's bad enough that I have to manually refresh every single tab on startup (because reasons?!) but also having to click on them to make them even load whatever was cached?
How is this a good thing for power users?!

That doesn't fix it

I've also been looking for a solution to this problem. Hopefully it'll soon be fixed - I totally agree that this is quite bad for power users.

So still no way to disable this? I mean, it's not a dealbreaker for me, but it would still be nice to have an option.

Hi!
It has been a very nice experience so far with Vivaldi (came and went a couple times throught the beta), but you really need to address this issue.
I really appreciate the effort made to improving the experience of those with limited resources (either PCs or broadbands) but I have a beast of a connection (300Mbps DW/UP) and a beast of a PC (i7, 16GB RAM,…). I would bet many are in a similar situation.
Since it's chromium's default to load background tabs (and please correct me if something has changed and I'm wrong), I really believe it wouldn't that hard to implement a switch for turning this option on. There is already extreme customizability.
Btw, just joined the forums to create this topic, awesome community from what it'm seeing, hi everyone!
PS: I believe something similar would apply to this therad, but I'd rather post in just one topic:

Have Vivaldi devs even spoke about this? Any mentions? Anything?
This tab behavior annoys me to no end.
-
I pin tabs. But it doesn't bother me that they hibernate. I prefer it.
-
So that I can always go to the same place for them, without having to open a new tab or disturb my tab order, and so that I don't accidentally delete one. Of course, after I have used one, it tends to stay live, so that saves a second or two on future uses, but it's not a question of speed for me. It's a question of convenience.

@RRR13:
I have the same problem with lazy loading. Actually, it's worse. I always have 2-3 mail accounts (depends on which machine I am at the moment), digg reader, WhatsApp web, and some other crap pinned. The other crap doesn't matter, but 4-5 of the first pinned tabs have notifications and MUST always work Ing the background, so it is essential that they load on startup. I currently have to manually go through each of them and activate them so they start working properly every time I start Vivaldi.
Yes, I second that this shouldn't be in effect for pinned tabs of all things. Those are pinned for a reason. We certainly should have options for all tabs, but at the very least, load pinned tabs.

Still no update on this I see… this and the keyboard shortcuts overriding websites issues are the only reasons I haven't switched my main browser to Vivaldi.
-
Who was the person who thought that not having an option to disable this was a good idea? Must be retarded.

I think that would be better to learn some good manners before subscribing any forum.

Same request from my side - this "lazy tab" behavior is driving me crazy coming from O12.17 where the engine nicely reloaded all tabs in the background on browser restart. One click on a tab -> instantly ready with reloaded content. That's what I want for Vivaldi as well!!! Any ideas?
-
90% of Vivaldi use is reloading pages… XDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
What a bunch of noobs, i don't know who the fuck developes such thing and don't notice the lack of an option to turn this retard thing off.
-
I too would like an option to disable lazy loading. Makes somewhat sense on a hardware resource limited system, but for those of us "in the land of plenty" aka power users, it's definitely not a good feature.

When 1.5 is stable, it will be released. As 1.5.
