Tor with one's favorite browser?

  • Is it possible to use Tor network with one's own favorite browser rather than with the bundled one? (I'm on Opera Presto)

  • A few years back I did manage to 'Torify' Opera Presto…

You need Vidalia and Polipo at least. They were available at the Tor website... however Vidalia seems to have been replaced.
There used to be a basic package you could download and install with all the necessary programs and associated files.
You could also configure other software if you wished.

See the links below for official guides/instructions:

    Best of Luck

  • Thanks, greybeard.

That was probably years ago :)
Opera Presto supports SOCKS and remote DNS (it didn't years ago) so you can use it with Tor (expert bundle) without any other software.
All you have to do is to configure Opera to use a local proxy (Tor/SOCKS) and to enable "Remote SOCKS DNS Lookups" in opera:config.

    @booBot

Protocol: SOCKS Proxy server: 127.0.0.1 Port: 9050
opera:config -> Use Remote SOCKS DNS Lookups

Don't forget to disable in your browser scripting and active content.

  • Thanks, Krake.

I knew it must be really simple with Opera Presto.
(still looking for the bloat-free installation file of Tor)

    PS
My Opera Presto configuration is "disable all" by default.

    PPS
Found the "expert bundle", posting from Torified Opera.
Will sniff on my NIC to check that all the DNS and HTTP(S) traffic is indeed encrypted.

  • Krake, huge thanks again!
    :)
