Crash fixes and a Chromium update – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1874.27
-
@enc0re: It doesn't work the way you think it does. Firstly, we do not get a heads up when Chromium will release security fixes, we have to react to that when it happens and it takes time to pull in the changes and test to ensure no serious regressions.
As for the other new fixes, they did not have a set timescale when we knew they would be ready. It wasn't clear we would fix them before the week is out.
Also Chromium 81 (on which Vivaldi 3.0 is based) already had several important security fixes not found in Chromium 80 on which 2.11 was based. We cannot just leave our users for weeks without these fixes. There is only so much leeway.
Finally dates get set and agreed with third parties, e.g. journalists writing reviews. Whilst we can move dates this will affect what is written about us or if we are written about at all in the media. Many cannot shift their publishing schedules to accommodate us. Now of course if things are serious enough we can shift release dates and forego coverage but it is important to avoid this when possible. Such media coverage gains us new users. This is important for Vivaldi to remain a going concern indefinitely.

Just a follow up. Two more very nice fixes arrived today and we have been able to test them internally to a level where it is likely we can include them in the minor update as well (without having to issue a new snapshot).
Those of you who downloaded the 3.0.1874.29 stable pre-release need not worry however. You will receive updates as well and gain these fixes.

Oh noes. Vivaldi UI decided to take a prolonged pomodoro break (black window)
Which files I have to check to solve? (I did so many times I forgot that) -
@Hadden89 I would start with Session and Tabs files.
-
@Ayespy I did but no luck. Then I tried the "101 troubleshooting manual" solution and just rebooted the OS. It worked
(I think I'll set few "fail safe" shorcut for these rare occurrences). -
@stevekong: Is the settings category "Updates" even supposed to show up in the snapshots?
-
@SteveKong The same as on stable: on Windows yes, on Linux no, on Mac
I don't know (probably yes)no (thanks @AltCode) -
@potmeklecbohdan Updates category does not exist on Mac, whether its snapshot or stable.
