Vivaldi's new update keeps crashing it.

@yigit
I also experienced this with Hola VPN. It seems Vivaldi exits as soon as the VPN server is accessed. An easy way to test it is to remove your internet connection. Then start Vivaldi without any internet. It will start up and complain about "No internet". Now you can go to Extensions and disable or remove the DNS extension.

I restored from a backup my standalone 2.11.1811.52.x64 Vivaldi version
I deactivated the Hola Free VPN extension (as a precaution)
I updated Vivaldi online with the last 3.0.1874.32.x64 version
I activated the Hola Free VPN extension
Now everything works fine -
Hey guys! Please test these extensions with the latest Minor update for 3.0. If you still have issues, please leave your feedback under the Minor Update's blog post.

Hi,
I have updated Vivaldi from version 2 to version 3 using updater, but after update Vivaldi didn't start - blank window appears for brief moment and then disappears, no Vivaldi process isn't running in task manager.
I have tried to uninstall it, remove all user data (renamed the Vivaldi folder in %USER%\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data in order to remove any dependency from version 2). Then I have install it again, as a clean installation, I have tried version 32bit and 64bit but the result was the same. I have tried various snapshots - Snapshot stream (1874.27) and Stable stream (1874.29) in both 32bit and 64bit version, latest update to 3.0.1874.38 behaves the same way, problem persists.
My version of Windows 10 is 15.11 64bit version.
I have found out that the I am able to launch Vivaldi changing the Vivaldi.exe program to Compatibility mode selecting Windows 8 compatibility.
Hopefully it it will be fixed in next releases of Vivaldi. -
The crash happened to me even while reading this thread. Recently it has gotten worse and will crash sometimes within 5 seconds of starting up each time. I turn around for a moment and turn back, Vivaldi has crashed again. It is crashing up to 20-30 times a day for me. Why has this not been fixed yet????

@Mordd
Hi, hard to fix when it does not crash for other user, too.
I use Vivaldi on Windows and Linux several hours a day and cant even remember my last crash.
I guess your profile is broken, open a guest profil to test this or install a second Vivaldi as standalone install.Cheers, mib

Hi,
Welcome to Vivaldi's Forums!Try on a New 's Profile:
- "Right side" |
If Vivaldi can't be opened enough time to do it, follow this other steps:
Access to Profile Manager.
- Locate a Shortcut of your installation
- Create a copy and rename it to
Profile Manager
- Right click and Properties on it
- At the very end of
Target
, add:- [A Space]
--profile-directory
- [A Space]
- Save & Open that ShortCut and
Add Person
- [Test / Emergency / ...] - Check if it works
--
If works,
Backup your Profiles, Follow the Tip and Copy User Data folder, one level above of the New / Test Profile, to assure that the Default Profile folder is saved.Access it using:
- Win + R > %AppData%
After all that,
Start deleting, directly from Windows File Manager, Cache folder, Code Cache... follow Extra Steps at Signature to find them all.
And check opening your Default Vivaldi.Try renaming / deleting Sessions folder if not enough.
Then would follow some other files to be deleted, but assure about the BackUp before any deletion.Rename it as Tests or something related, and use it as a Clean Profile, to test without custom configurations that can alter the original operation.
Since the result, check:
- Active Flags / Experiments or Switches
- Ad Blocker - Tip
- Site Data
- Clean Cache
- Extensions - Tip
Or fill in a Bug Report and please, add the VB# to the topic for follow up.

@Mordd Please try the troubleshooting steps on our Help Page here: https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/troubleshooting-issues/. Perhaps an extension or some setting is causing the browser to crash.
If that doesn't help, please send us the crash logs, so the devs could look into the issue. You'll find instructions for finding the log files and reporting crashes here: https://help.vivaldi.com/tag/crash-report/. -
