Vivaldi 3.0 RC 2 – Vivaldi Desktop Browser snapshot 1874.15

@Pesala In my opinion it should block the stable release until fixed.
This is going to cause extremely bad publicity having a bug that completely freezes and makes the browser unusable. Stable users are counting on stable releases to be well.. stable, which this release won't be if not fixed. The bug happens in bing video search results, a few nsfw sites and probably many other sites that have not been reported yet. It's not a minor issue at all.

Vivaldi freezes completely with Ctrl+Alt+Delete being the only way to recover, so test at your own risk!
You don't have to completely close/task kill Vivaldi; it's enough to kill the GPU process.
But yeah, it's a quite critical bug.(Also, I cannot reproduce on that Tesla link, but I do have it happen occasionally when browsing.)
-
@Pesala I don't have to test it. Only today I had to kill Vivaldi process over a dozen times.
@mtaki14 Totally agree. A such serious bug should has a top priority. You shouldn't release the stable version without fixing it. Otherwise the stable release is no longer stable - loses its meaning. Releasing final 3.0 version is a big news, so please don't let it to be overshadow by reports of unusable hanging browser.
-
@mozzer , have you found a reliable way to reproduce it? I have had it happen to me, but not often and with no pattern, so we are little bit struggling here. Any help is welcome in finding a reliable way to reproduce this issue.
-
Any news on VB-64791? This is a huge pain e.g. when using Reddit Enhancement Suite.
-
@mozzer have you tried turning off hardware acceleration? in my Win7 32bit PC with nVidia GT 710 I find Vivaldi better rendering videos with HW acceleration off, as it often stutters videos when enabled. Maybe even driver versions are a factor.
-
@Komposten Same. Can't repro on tesla uk. But I'm still testing RC2 to see what happens elsewhere (it seems very random and potentially GPU related).
-
@jon: I wish I could give you a way to reproduce it, but it seems to be a non-deterministic problem. I have a feeling, that it's related to video previews, triggered when you hover over them.
I've spotted the bug on https://pixabay.com/videos/search/ and https://www.shutterstock.com/video. Try to browse the catalog, start some video previews, open clips in new tabs...
-
@jon: I think I've got something new. I've just spotted this bug on https://yandex.ru/portal/video.
Just open the link and scroll down with triggering video previews until Vivaldi hangs. Confirmed 5 times in a row. Reported now as VB-65987.Here's a screen recording: https://imgur.com/a/TBh5GBX

@mozzer Confirmed but don't happen here with hardware acc. off.
(But can't be sure due the occasional nature of the bug) -
Sometimes, HW Acceleration off prevent to open sites (vivaldi.net included).
But I really hope is CNR (as hw off works for most people - even if it don't solve the issue (but just change the behaviour). -
@Hadden89 said in Vivaldi 3.0 RC 2 – Vivaldi Desktop Browser snapshot 1874.15:
Without hw acc. I can't even open sites (vivaldi.net included).
That's weird, I don't even see why vivaldi.net should have HW acceleration needed to be displayed. So far the only site where I have to set HW acceleration on to see daylimotion videos in Vivaldi, which I don't use anyway and go there periodically just to test if anything changed with or without that setting.
-
@iAN-CooG I was asking the same thing.
Guess I've to setup the (fourth) standalone install ^^, -

I can reproduce on this site with those instructions!
Vivaldi: 3.0.1874.15 (64-bit)
OS: Windows 10 1909 (Build 18363.778)
GPU: AMD Radeon 5700 XT
Driver: Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.2.2
Can also confirm that it's the rendering process that hangs. Closing the Vivaldi process running with
--type=gpu-process
causes Vivaldi to start working again. -
@mozzer , this was useful. I am able to reproduce this way. Hopefully the devs can as well and they can find a fix. It is always easier when you can reproduce, although it takes some effort to do so.
-
We are working on a fix as we speak. Hopefully that will work.
-
@mozzer Yes, on this site is easier to reproduce. With hardware acceleration disabled, Vivaldi does not freeze but previews stop working after a while.
-
the debugger does not work, the buttons are inactive.
only through hot keys, and then through time -
This little issue is still present, I guess I mentioned too late. https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/361508
