Is Changing Color of Search Bar Frame and Tabs Possible?
-
I've still been using good old Opera 12.17 so far, after looking at many other browsers that would give me less reasons to have to let Opera open a webpage with Firefox or IE11 when the page did not work well. As time went on this happened increasingly. Like no video playing or no audio. Still every time I would report it to Opera via Help > Report a Site Problem. But unlike in the past no fixes ware made. I understand their team is fully working on the newest versions so no time for that. I was one of the critics on the Opera forum when to my dismay the "upgrade" from the classic Opera to the run of the mill version was automatically downloaded-installed on my laptop. I removed it and was glad to return to Opera 12.17 and disable updates. I was wondering and hoping someone would continue to keep servicing that one or develop a new browser like it. Only today did I focus on Vivaldi via YouTube searching for another browser. I'm glad Vivaldi was developed! I'm using it for the first time just to post this. Have not surfed anywhere else with it yet. I like it very much. Yet I wonder if it is possible to change the bright red frame of the search bar and tabs to another color. Just to make it more compatible with my StartPage. And the default "sky above the clouds" Vivaldi page which looks great. I like that everything else a lot.

Vivaldi settings > Appearance > Uncheck "Use Page Theme Color in User Interface"

Thank you. I was just going to post I discovered that.
I still have something I would like to fix:
Every time I open the browser it is in diminished size, so I have to click on the Maximize button in the top right corner. Even after I manually pull the borders to full size, and then click on Max size, after I close it and open the browser again it is back to medium size.

Thot this was fixed? "VB-5663 [windows] Vivaldi doesn't remember the window state (e.g. maximized): needs one restart."
Are you using Vivaldi 1.0.298.15 on Windows?
-
I'm using 1.0.219.50 on Windows 8.1.
Also the toggle panel on the left shows every time I re-open the browser. Even though I hid it the last time.
I wouldn't mind that if I could change the black color of it to the color of the rest of the page: white in my case.

Like Ayespy said, as of this post, the most recent version of Vivaldi is 1.0.298.15, and that particular bug is fixed. You can download it by going to the developers' blog.
You can change the colour of the panel either by changing the browser theme (Light / Dark) in the Vivaldi settings, or by editing the CSS. See the short guide below.
- Windows: open directory %localappdata%\Vivaldi\Application\1.0.249.12\resources\vivaldi\style
–- Linux: open directory /opt/vivaldi-snapshot/resources/vivaldi/style/ - Open "common.css"
- At the very top of the file, add:```
@import "custom.css";
5) Paste this code into the file:
/* Makes the sidebar white */
#switch {
background-color: #F6F6F6 !important;
}/* Makes the icons in the sidebar black */
#switch button svg {
fill: black !important;
}/* Makes the panel backgrounds white */
#panels .panel {
background-color: white !important;
}Vivaldi will need to be restarted after changes are made to these files.
- Windows: open directory %localappdata%\Vivaldi\Application\1.0.249.12\resources\vivaldi\style

Thank you again.
That's funny. I only looked at the 15 and the 50 and thought the latter must be the latest version.
I'll remove the version I'm using, and download-install the other one.
About following your color changing instructions, I better look at that again afterwards. I'm not very knowledgeable in those things.
-
Back this time in the latest version. The previous one only is offered on the main download page. So I had to search a bit. Glad to see that size issue fixed.
As I admitted, I'm not exactly very pc savvy. So I don't even know how to follow your instruction number 1 for changing the color of the side toggle panel. Let alone exactly what follows below that instruction. (I do know how to copy/paste though… :lol: )
I'm sure it's probably quite easy to do once you know how to... -
Well, there's the panel toggle which is the really skinny bar at the edge with just a tiny triangle in it used to open and close the panels bar (which is the narrow dark bar with the icons), and that can be turned on and off in settings. Then there is the little square bi-color toggle switch at the left edge of the status bar, which also opens and closes the panels bar, AND, there is the "view" menu where you can check or uncheck "panels" which shows or hides the panels bar. Whatever the status of that bar is when you close the browser, should be remembered when you open it. Sooooooo, especially if you leave the status bar turned on, you have no need to ever see anything at the left or right edge of the browser unless you toggle the panels bar on.

Hmm… those are the instructions I copy/paste every time I explain how to customize some CSS to other users. I'll "dumb it down" even further.
- Open the folder located at: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\Application\1.0.298.15\resources\vivaldi\style\
- Open the file "common.css"
- At the very top of the file, add:```
@import "custom.css";
5) Paste this code into the file and then save it:
/* Makes the sidebar white in light-UI mode */
.ui-light #switch {
background-color: #F6F6F6 !important;
}.ui-light #switch button svg {
fill: black !important;
}Vivaldi will need to be restarted after changes are made to these files. I'll provide screenshots if you really need me to ;)

I have to revise my latest advice. Everything I said is accurate EXCEPT: at the moment, the only way to remember the state of the panel bar (closed) is to use "Open With Last Session" in settings. We are now told that this particular bug will be fixed in the next release.

So much work you just did to help me. And in the mean time I discovered that for spell checking English only is yet available. While I post a lot in Dutch… as I was just now doing below an article on a well known Dutch news and opinion site and all the sentences I wrote were underlined in red.
If the language thing is extended I will most probably make Vivaldi my default browser. For now I'll wait with that so the color of the toggle bar is not an issue for me any more.
Thank you very much for your helpful kindness.

(Of course I can disable checking of spelling.)
