Naming Groups of Tabs
-
Hi!
I would like to be able to give a name to a tab group.
Something like
[group name] Tab Title
I see that there can be no much space left, since the tab size is small by default. Maybe using a different font size for tab name?
I tend to group a lot of tabs by topic, so this feature would be very useful.
I think the purpose is similar to colorizing the tabs, like demanded by other issues, but text gives more concise information than colors. -
@648trindade The feature already exists, but the Tab Title is replaced with the group name. The Tab title is show at the bottom of the Tab Preview.
Right-click on a Tab Stack to rename it.

This feature appeared in which release version? My Vivaldi do not show this option when I right-click a tab stack.
Vivaldi: 2.11.1811.49 (Stable channel) (64 bits)
Revision: cac8cb477e6de02013662fb5f48ac1a82bca666b
Operating System: Linux (Cent OS 7) -
Tab Stack renaming isn't enabled by default. Go to Settings > Tabs > Tab Features > Tab Stacking and enable 'Allow Tab Stack Renaming'. Then right-click on the Tab Stack select Rename Tab Stack as @Pesala instructed.
You can also rename Tab Stacks in the Window Panel.
-
@648trindade You have to enable tab stack renaming under settings/tabs. It's been there a long time - over a year now, I think...

I just updated my system, including Vivaldi. I'm running vivaldi-stable 3.6.2165.40-1 on Linux Mint 19.3. I'm just learning about Tab Stacks, and tried the Rename function:
When Right-clicking on a Tab Stack and selecting Rename Tab Stack, no Text box appears. The context menu disappears, with no visible change . Double-clicking the Tab Stack also elicits no action, no visible change.
In Settings/Tabs/Tab Features/Tab Stacking There is no checkbox to enable Renaming, nor is there such under Tab Stack Options.
What am I missing?

@becker44a Things have changed since this thread was started. Tab-Stack renaming is now enabled by default and there is no option to disable it. Double-click no longer works, but right-click, rename tab-stack works on on the Windows version.

@Pesala
So Rename Tab Stack is not usable under Linux? Is this an issue we can expect to be fixed in the future? -
@becker44a I presume that it is, or this topic would not have been marked as DONE.
Ask in the Linux forum to see if other Linux users see the same issue or have reported a bug.

@guigirl
As mentioned in my post above, it doesn't work on my system:
When Right-clicking on a Tab Stack and selecting Rename Tab Stack, no Text box appears. The context menu disappears, with no visible change .After you posted, I tried it again, same behavior. I even typed a few characters and pressed Enter. No change.
I'm running vivaldi-stable 3.6.2165.40-1 on Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon 64-bit, if any of that matters.
Should this be reported as a bug?

@guigirl
Thanks for your response. I'll see what a fresh profile does and report back. It might be a couple of days. -
@guigirl
I just closed Vivaldi, renamed my ~/.config/vivaldi directory, and re-opened vivaldi. Profile was empty of course. So I opened a few pages, created a stack, and successfully renamed it. So the profile is the issue. Now I just have to figure out what setting or issue is causing this problem.
Thanks -
@guigirl
Yes, I run 2 extensions: Bitwarden (password manager) and uBlock Origin (Ad and Popup blocker).
I disabled both and retested - problem solved. I then reactivated Bitwarden - still able to Rename. I reactivated uBlock - still no issue. So one or the other caused the problem. I have renamed the tabs I wanted to, and I know how to get around the issue again if needed.Thanks for your suggestions.
