Automatic element hiding in the blocker – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1874.30
-
@ruarí: yeah, i know thanks
-
@ruarí: Cool to know it's coming on Windows too. It'd be nice to have a little more options like probably a summary of the changes shown before/after you install and the option to skip a version (i.e. you see the known issues for the newest snapshot and decide to wait until next week).
-
@Hadden89 We were talking about these: https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/tree/master/filters
-
Video sites still hang/froze the entire browser.

Adding to this, I wouldn't mind having it work exactly like it does currently, but with the added option of "Install next time i start Vivaldi". This means that we could still read the changelog normally and choose whether to update now, get reminded later, or skip the update entirely. If we choose to update now the update will be downloaded and prepared, but not installed until next time Vivaldi is (re-)started.

@ryanchuang: Happens to me too.

@luetage Is not. The site say ABP|UBO ruleset list. But it also suggest to use the extension for better results.
I actually use NanoAdblocker which has slightly different lists.You can load Nano lists into uBlock.
https://www.ghacks.net/2019/02/15/integrate-nano-defender-with-ublock-origin-to-block-anti-adblocker/EDIT. Those lists seem to load into Vivaldi fine too.

This post is deleted! -
@gwen-dragon: I already did at last snapshot. The thing is it wasn't just happened at one specific site,but some video viewing sites if not all.
-
I do miss the number of blocked ads and trackers to be shown in the shield menu or on hovering the icon. Was this feature removed or is this a known bug? MacOS, if that matters.
-
@SteveKong It still shows, but only if something is being blocked on the site you are currently on.
-
@luetage: It does not for me but maybe I am missing something. I activated blocking of trackers and ads and appropriate lists. Where exactly should the statistics show up? I did:
- hover the shield icon
- click the shield icon to bring up its menu
- click the blocked contents icon on the right of the address bar
-
@Gwen-Dragon I've tried to reproduce this error but it's not that simple. It seems to be a non-deterministic problem. Sometimes Vivaldi freezes, sometimes not.
I've spotted this bug while browsing https://www.pexels.com/videos/ or https://pixabay.com/videos/search/ (I'm not sure which one it was). Try to browse the catalog, mouseover to see a preview, open some videos in new tabs, play them, close tabs etc. That's all I can tell for now.
-
@SteveKong Clicking the shield icon is enough. See here:
-
@luetage: Nope. Nothing shows up for me. I tried several sites such as reddit, zeitonlin, theverege etc. Interestingly, my shield icon is missing the flash symbol as well.
-
@SteveKong I guess that means nothing is being blocked. Check your blocker settings in privacy to find out what the problem is.
-
@mozzer: that's drastic solution but try clearing... browser history. I once had unidentified performance issue related to video, nobody could help me or spot the source of the issue and the only thing that finally helped was to clear browser history entries (not cookies, cache, etc, but the browsed pages history).
-
@jacekn: Oh no, please no

When this happens open Task Manager (or your OS's equivalent if you're not on Windows) and kill the Vivaldi process which has
--type=gpu-process
in its command line:
This restarts Vivaldi's rendering engine and kan fix a lot of freeze issues, including ones related to videos (I've had those happen as well).(In Windows Task Manager you might have to tell it to display the Command Line column. In the Details tab, right-click one of the column names and choose "Select columns". Then find "Command Line" in the list.)

I can confirm that, and https://pixabay.com/videos/search/ freezes my guest window indeed, it happens in sites that provide many videos with previews that start playing when you hover over them, or if you open some videos in the background while playing one on the initial page, it has to do with GPU hardware acceleration and must be related to VB-61526 as it's also still unfixed. The only way to proceed is to kill the Vivaldi GPU process (the one with the highest memory consumption) which always comes with the following strange line
--gpu-preferences=MAAAAAAAAADgAAAwAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABgAAAAAAAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKAAAAAQAAAAgAAAAAAAAACgAAAAAAAAAMAAAAAAAAAA4AAAAAAAAABAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUAAAAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGAAAAEAAAAAAAAAABAAAABQAAABAAAAAAAAAAAQAAAAYAAAA=
P.S. I have only tested it on Windows so far.
