custom search engine icons not showing up
-
I'm have no idea why the same websites and exactly the same settings (same search urls and nicknames) vivaldi is not showing the icons, but opera is showing them. also when I use quick commands window (cmd+e) I can't see the icons but in opera instant search window icons are showing up. it's no more than eyecandy, but I wanted to report it in here if it's a bug or not. opera does it vivaldi can't it makes me sad, thank you.

@baris-sehri Probably because these sites use non-standard ways of linking the favicon, and Vivaldi apparently only picks up the
<link rel="shortcut icon">
type and ICO file type.For instance, Rateyourmusic does a redirect (also, missing the scheme):
$ curl -I https://rateyourmusic.com/favicon.ico HTTP/2 301 server: nginx date: Wed, 08 Apr 2020 15:46:31 GMT content-type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 content-length: 8 location: //e.snmc.io/2.5/img/sonemic.png mime-version: 1.0
Shutterstock uses an SVG:
<link data-react-helmet="true" rel="shortcut icon" sizes="32x32" href="https://ak.picdn.net/assets/sstk/favicon.svg"/>
Dribbble does not have a
rel="shortcut icon
at all...Lazy web site devs as always I guess... thinking they can get away with using all kinds of fancy-ass "solutions" and not sticking with the tried and true established ways of doing things...
Then again, Vivaldi should really try harder to get these icons. So I think it's only fitting to report as a bug
EDIT: Oh and there is a way to get these icons to show if it really bugs you - it gets technical though, I'll show you if you're up for it

No need, it already is (VB-36277)
@baris-sehri see the linked thread (it's hidden in the spoiler)

@baris-sehri Apologies for the late reply, it was too late last night. Unfortunately, it appears that I remembered wrong, I had an idea the icons were saved in the Favicons file, but apparently they're saved in the bloody Chrome LevelDB format which is completely opaque unless you're a programmer...
@potmeklecbohdan Linked a possible workaround above though, but seems very convoluted...
https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/293058EDIT: Another one which will work is to use the Backup Search Engines JS mod. Use it to backup your engines as JSON (a good idea to do once in a while anyway). Then you can add the base64-encoded icon URL you want to the engines, and import back into Vivaldi using the mod.

Well, that's really old, it can't hurt to create some more, maybe they forgot about it

One year later and still the same problem!

Joining the chorus hoping for a fix to this.
I added Yandex Images to my list as they give better quality results.

I found a workaround to show the icons
