Blocked sites information – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1862.3

  • Oh! You added new start page backgrounds (and also two preset colors)! 🤪 When? ❓

Edit: one as .webp? Whaaat? 😵

  • @potmeklecbohdan WebP is often smaller than JPG for a comparable quality. I don't understand why the image is 225 Kbytes.

This JPG is only 22.5 Kbytes and the WebP equivalent is only 8.2 Kbytes.

  • Can anyone try in the Discord server chat, when unveil a spoiler "link", Vivaldi usually hangs. (Maybe first time no hangs, try second time)
It happens when disable all extensions too. Since Vivaldi upgraded to Chromium 81.
Update: Find out enable --force-renderer-accessibility causing this problem.

  • Vivaldi Team

@derday: Great, thanks, the only way I've been able to reproduce the issue you mention with no blocked items shown in the tracker blocker is if I have ublock origin installed and enabled, I was wondering if you could perhaps see the same results?

  • @Aronand
I have a second vivaldi user without any extensions installed and the badge works there like intended

VB-65003: Crash when opening a link with HTTP basic auth (Confirmed)

  • Hi!
The bookmarks bar does not appear when opened after exiting.

    @Steve19651230 Which OS version?

  • @Pesala,
the answer appears primarily as a kind of "deflection bubble".
Once again: don't hold on to terms so much, the mentioned keyboard command "ctrl+shift+B" is enough to recognize what it is actually(!) about. No matter if "bookmark-bar" or "-tab" is written. This is a little bit irrelevant!
And if this is supposed to be "by design", then someone seems to have little knowledge of design. That, if good, supports the user in operation(s). And not hiding meaningful things. That is bad (design).

  • @dremlon It is not irrelevant if you use the wrong terms. Confusion is very likely to result, and it did. Zoli62 managed to use the right terminology and his post was easy to understand.
    @zoli62 said:

Although the visibility of the bookmarks bar is turned on, it disappears, but you have to turn it back on in the menu. Has anyone experienced this?

If the Bookmarks Bar disappears on startup that is a bug. If it also disappears on restarting then that is a bug that I cannot confirm, so submit a proper bug report for that.

Showing the Bookmarks Tab on restarting would be a bug, unless you have selected the startup option to Startup with Last Session.

How you can call that bad design is beyond me! Why should the Bookmarks Tab, History Tab, Help About, Help, or any other tab be reopened on startup if you have set Vivaldi to Startup with the Start Page, or Home Page?

The Bookmarks Panel does display on restart if it was displayed on close. That is good design because the panel is part of the UI.

  • The feature seems to be nicely done! When is it planned to be shipped with stable?

  • @0x49D1
Maybe half april or a bit soon. It seems that chromium paused the 81 stable rollout due pandemy.
More time for Vivaldi to fix bugs and regressions in snapshot branch - which is already on chromium 81 beta.

  • I fully realise that the snapshot builds are way ahead of the stable release, but, is there any time scale for the tracker and adblocker to be implemented into the stable release? Because I would love to try it out

  • @ultraviolet You do not need to wait. Just install the Snapshot as a Standalone version in its own folder, and update it weekly.

The Stable version will be untouched.

  • @gwen-dragon: Windows 10 x64 Enterprise

  • [Geolocation] Switch provider from MLS to Combain (VB-64414)

Can we please make this an option to choose if we are the browser built on idea of choice? I was not happy with being forced to MLS, now I'm forced to something I never heard of.

  • @jacekn

This is something that I would trust Vivaldi developers with. They are better placed than either of us to know which service is safest and most private.

Providing a choice would not help the vast majority of users to decide which is more private.

  • Status bar gets activated randomly. Also to hide it, have to tick option in view settings twice. 1862.3 standalone install. Did not happen in previous snapshots.

  • Right. Same remote X11 display failures as in all recent snapshots and releases since 2.10.

At the moment both --no-sandbox and --no-xshm are both required to get a functional remote X11 window to come up and be useable. Used clean install of Linux 64bit vivaldi-snapshot_2.12.1862.3-1_amd64.deb. All vivaldi-snapshot related ~/.config files and ~/.cache files were nuked prior to install. The "purge" option of the installer was used to remove all binaries and configs prior to install.

Without --no-sandbox it crashes. Without --no-xshm (when --no-sandbox is used) blank unusable window appears.

Prereq: ssh with X11 forwarding to remote box. Send display back to local box. Debian/Ubuntu mixture of hosts does not matter. Even happens with ssh to localhost (getting a DISPLAY different than :0) then attempting to launch.
