Further Blocker Improvements – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1856.3

  • Vivaldi Team

    In today’s snapshot we add further ad blocker rules lists to choose between and support automatic updates of them.

  • Thanks for your hard work! 👍

  • Is there a plan for more focus on panels QOL improvements?

  • ⏱⏱⏱ @Ruarí If the Vivaldi team can add a seconds display to the taskbar clock, that would be very useful. ⌚⌚⌚

    See Feature Request:⌚ Clock with seconds ⏱

    https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/44717/feature-request-clock-with-seconds?_=1584036090852 ⌚⌚⌚

  • If you're going to hide the rule lists via a click, then you should fully allow them to have fluid horizontal screen space, it's kinda hard to identify each list.

    Also, agree with AXK, regional lists shouldn't be directly mixed with the rest because they have niche usage.

  • Wow, they're coming in fast this week, good work!

    [Panel][Regression] Cannot move buttons with Shift (VB-62619)

    THANK YOU 👍

  • Agree with everyone on localised lists, especially since only a link is displayed (as opposed to the list name). It's not very intuitive that way and looks cluttered in that limited space. Perhaps the list name should be listed with a right click menu option to Install localisation.

    I also think, Blocking lists>Whitelist. That toggle should be reversed.

    And I still would like to be able to see or at least access the stats of each list, either with the count displayed (like in uBlock Origin) or as a Properties option in the right click menu.

    Everything else seems to be working as expected. Thanks for the quick releases.

  • Mr. Squeaky Wheel here. Remote X11 display still broken (since 2.10).

    Work-around is to use both --no-xshm --no-sandbox. Again, the sandbox disabling feels like a poor (and potentially risky) solution.

    Clean installed vivaldi-snapshot_2.12.1856.3-1_amd64.deb. Removed ~/.cache/vivaldi-snapshot and ~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot.

    $ ssh -X remote_host # same result with -Y
    $ echo $DISPLAY
    localhost:10.0
    $ xterm # appears on local X11 display just fine
    $ vivaldi-snapshot --version
    Vivaldi 2.12.1856.3

    $ vivaldi-snapshot ### crashes -->

    The last one (with --no-xshm --no-sandbox) runs and displays a useable window even though some ERRORs are reported in the launching terminal.

    Thanks for the [Clock][Regression] All time notations corrupted and show tt (VB-64659) but for those who have "..ss.."?

    1. If you enable "Use POST method" for a search engine, searching in Search Field fails.
      Noticed this three builds ago but haven't got around to follow up till now.
      Is this a know bug? Or should I file a bug report?

    2. The new feature -- Regional blocking. Options will have name of each particular list eventually, won't they? Those bunch of addresses we currently have are not particularly user friendly.

    Thank you very much for you hard work, Team. Happy testing everyone.
    Cheers, MM

  • @mimismum For #1 - I cannot replicate this here. I use POST for a couple of sites and they also work from the search field.

    What are the parameters you use and for what site?

  • Moderator

    @mmhere On Debian 10.3 it works with --noxshm, i do not need --no-sandbox

  • @Pathduck
    Thanks for your quick reply. No parameter change; no particular site (happens even when using a vivaldi://xxxx page)

    So I tested in a relatively new separate profile and the bug doesn't affect it. After comparing settings between that and affected default profile, I think I spotted the trigger.

    This problem seems to happen when the setting: Search > Search Field Display - "Always Search in New Tab" is enabled. Can you test it?

    Cheers, MM

  • @Gwen-Dragon said in Further Blocker Improvements – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1856.3:

    @mmhere On Debian 10.3 it works with --noxshm, i do not need --no-sandbox

    Mine had it running on Debian 10.3 (where the executable is) with the window thrown to an Ubuntu 16.04 host. In that combo Debian 10.3 is affected (requires both --no-xshm --no-sandbox in order to work).

    Identical results if I run on Debian 10.3 (where the executable is) with the window thrown to another Debian 10.3 host. Again requires both --no-xshm --no-sandbox to bring up a window.

    In fact, ssh-ing to the same local Debian 10.3 box, the same problems occur. I.e., on my_host, ssh -X my_host, DISPLAY gets set to localhost:10.0, run vivaldi-snapshot, error occurs. Work-around requires both --no-xshm --no-sandbox

    versions:

    $ uname -a
    Linux my_host 4.19.0-6-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.67-2+deb10u2 (2019-11-11) x86_64 GNU/Linux
    $ cat /etc/debian_version

    • [Settings] Hide password list by default (VB-4820)

    That is an old one! Thank you for fixing it.

  • @mimismum Yes, I can confirm it when "always search in new tab" is enabled. Good detective work 👍

    Please report it here:
    https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/

  • @Pathduck
    Done 🙂
    VB-64847

  • Wow, there a lot of lists now, and even two Italian ones.
    For the moment I'll keep only the international easy list (removed Ubo on my test version).
    Add the NoCoinList. All was imported 👍

  • i love the latest snapys! keep rockin! i feel v2.12 will be awsome on final release!

  • another useful feature...great
