Built-in Ad Blocker โ Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1848.4
-
Is this the dilemma for continuing to show the shield icon when it's on No Blocking?
Dilemma: We want to ship this with it set to off. But if we hide the icon when it's in that state, relatively few people will ever know about the feature.
-
@rseiler It's true. It should show by default, but they should still have an option to hide the icon for those who want to manage settings in preferences.
I also think block tracking should be on by default, as Vivaldi prides itself on being privacy-focused.
-
-
the adblocker is not working atr least for me, i remove the adblocker addon i use to test it but not luck.
-
pip disabler works but needed some video refreshing to work even when i close and reopen the vivaldi.
-
-
Twitter still doesn't work and I still can't send any images through Facebook Messenger.
-
@iAN-CooG I think the inbuilt adblocker is only using easylist, therefore it is no replacement for ublock and you can just disable it altogether (including tracking). As long as we can't add our own lists with automatic updates, there's no reason to use it all
-
@luetage You can already add individual sites, and there is a non-functional button for Manage Blocker Rule Sources so presumably adding lists is already planned.
-
@Pesala Setting up individual sites has nothing to do with it and yeah, I noticed the button.
This will get interesting as soon as the manifest version 3 restrictions and functionalities are known and later enforced. Could turn out very useful. -
The new Blocker is excellent for a first snapshot. Not perfect, but excellent!
The issue I'm seeing with this snapshot is favicons sometimes show as a blank. Mostly have noticed on Reddit.com and on Walmart.com
Tried a few different stock color schemes, and on 2 PCs, one a Win10 64 bit, the other Linux Mint 19.3 64 bit. Both sites I've tried with all the new block/no block options per site.
Also occurs in a Private window.
Any one else seeing missing favicons for sites in their tabs?
-
Good job Vivaldis!
-
Does anyone else have this? 1848.4 starts with the default Chromium tab (
chrome://newtab
), Vivaldi menu is gone (upon clicking it says[empty]
) and the last session is completely wiped out (along with the closed tabs). -
@pafflick Directly after the update process?
-
@Ornorm I guess so. I've just updated my snapshot installation and I can't get it to work properly
-
@pafflick Thanks for the confirmation (just to know if I could help by reproducing what you did).
Sorry, the update process worked like a charm for me. -
GODS BE PRAISED
-
@vividal: well actually Twitter feed is now broken. Ugh.
-
@electronicboy: For me also it was tampermonkey. Just disable tampermonkey from "manage extensions" and restart Vivaldi. Twitter is working again!
-
@vividal: Disabled Tampermonkey, fixed the problem. It was one of those scripts.
{edit} Re-enabled Tampermonkey, still works. Disabling and enabling it turned out fine. Hm.
-
@Ornorm I think I found the culprit. I've pinned Vivaldi to the taskbar and for reasons unknown, it created a shortcut leading up to this file:
"\Vivaldi Snapshot\Application\vivaldi_proxy.exe" --profile-directory=Default --app-id=mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli
(or it changed itself at some point). Why did it do that - I have no idea. I've pinned it to the taskbar some time ago and it worked fine up until today.
Removing the shortcut and pinning it again seems to have fixed the issue - except for the lost session... -
@pafflick It is an old issue.
-
@electronicboy: Ghostery was breaking twitter for me.
