Tracking blocker – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1838.3
-
@mtaki14: It did. The exact same fix is present here. Just a mistake that it got excluded from the changelog.
-
@tbgbe: Yes it works in Private windows. You can see this via developer tools
-
This approach of completely blocking connections to trackers goes beyond what most major browsers are doing, which is just stopping trackers from setting cookies and limiting their access to browser resources after connecting to them. The connection itself leaves you open to many types of tracking (e.g., by exposing your IP address and recording your browsing history in the process), and to really be protected they should be blocked outright.
Could you please give us some examples of browsers that do that? The browsers I know of that include a tracker blocker - Firefox, Edge and Brave do block the trackers according to a blacklist.

I want to rollback to a previous Snapshot so bad. Is it just a simple re-install, or do I have to carry profile folders over, etc.

SSL padlock wont be green anymore?
-
@Gregor I didn't like the new look of the padlock, as I'd like it to be greener like the old style, and also I see no point in the EV certificate text, so I've used the following CSS mod for it:
/* Hide EV certificate text */ .siteinfo-text { display: none; } /* Security padlock look */ .SiteInfoButton.secure, .SiteInfoButton.certified { border-radius: var(--radius); background-color: #004400; fill: #00a100; }
Looks like this:
-
@eucliwood: That rm line was only supposed to be temporary. I meant to remove it for 2.10 but forgot. I have removed it now.
-
@eucliwood: More like just a restart fixed it because that message was from the startup wrapper, which has not changed and you probably did not tweak.
-
@christoph142: Yeah. That's the one

If you drag the mouse pointer down, the PiP icon will disappear, also for all other videos including YouTube.
-
@stardepp The icon only disappears if you move the mouse away from the audio player.

@AltCode said in Tracking blocker – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1838.3:
It would be great if clicking the shield icon displayed the number of trackers that were blocked and if possible, which ones as well. Seeing how this is somewhat similar to DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials, I don't see why this couldn't be done, unless I misunderstood the blog post.
And to be unified with the locker icon next to it in addition to the "blocked content" icon at the right side of the address bar, so we would have a single icon with all the website info
-
@Pathduck Hey, while you're at it, and assuming we won't get an option to do it (which would be too bad), is there CSS to disappear (including the space taken up by it) the new icon devoted to tracking?
-
@Pesala no, this is not true, the PiP icon also disappears on Youtube videos and Facebook videos...if you drag the mouse pointer all the way down...to the taskbar
-
@ornorm: the icon comes back for me in fullscreen on YT as soon as my mouse hovers on the video (by design) and doesn't fade out (bug). Was hoping that this would be addressed in this snapshot. That is still the biggest annoyance for me w.r.t. the PIP feature.
-
Annoying tracking blocker icon could be hidden like this:
.addressfield *:not(.toolbar-small) .button-toolbar { display: none; }
-
@rseiler Here's what I use:
/* Hide content blocker button */ .button-toolbar button[title^="Content Blocker"] { display: none; }
There are other solutions, including the one right above. I just think mine is more future-proof
-
@noroots Unfortunately. I was too enthusiastic at the first use...
@Gwen-Dragon said in Tracking blocker – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1838.3:
@Ornorm But it fails on youtube in regular view if you hovered the video's tool bar and back to video.
-
Hey, the tracker blocker is great so far. I visit another forum that is just littered with GoogleAd placed advertisements. I set Vivaldi to block all trackers, and now I just see spinning circles instead of the ads!
