Whatsapp in the sidebar
-
Hi,
Right now, the only reason why I don't switch completely from Opera to Vivaldi is the Whatsapp app in the sidebar.
It's very useful because I spend a lot of time on the computer and it's easier to type on a real keyboard than on a mobile phone. I know I can simply use Whatsapp Web, but probably the biggest advantage for having it in the sidebar is that I can get the notification there and it's easier to spot them since I have the browser opened all of the time.Hopefully this will get integrated in Vivaldi as well.
Similarly, the Facebook Messenger may be useful for some. -
what's the problem of using Web Whatsapp in the panel from now on?? Add
https://web.whatsapp.com/
as a panel and do a right click at the top to turn on userdefined width (don't know the exact expression, see screenshot) -
I didn't know it was possible.
I gave it a try and it seems to be working as expected. I got disconnected once, so I will keep an eye on it.Thanks

@baad glad that I could help you.
perhaps you want to add some more webpanels, get some suggestions from this thread -
Hi,
Sorry for reviving this thread, but the WhatsApp panel stopped working.
Instead of showing the chat, it now prompts me to download the app as if I'm on mobile device: https://adib.tinytake.com/tt/NDA3OTA2Nl8xMjU0NjAxNw
It happened on both my home and work computers, in both cases after updating Vivaldi to the latest version.
It does the same thing for Slack.
However, if I open any of them in a separate tab, they work as expected, just not in the web panel.Restarting the browser or re-adding the web panels made no difference.
Any idea if it can be fixed?

Right-click on the web panel icon and select "Show desktop version" from the context menu. Then click on the home button on the top right corner of the side panel.
Let me know if that works.

Yep, it worked for both WhatsApp and Slack.
Thanks -
It worked for me as well. Thank you very much!

@mtaki14 Great tip! I just had the same problem - just installed Vivaldi and one of my first actions was to put WhatsApp on the side panel . Worked well then a couple of days later didn't! But I tried your tip and it's all good now. Thanks
