Feature request: Search suggestions
-
I miss the ability to receive search suggestions. For example google autosuggest what you are searching for when typing on the box on the website. I want this feature for all sites that support them. (And of course since you are sending data as you type, there should be a way to disable this as well.) In old-Opera we could do it like this: www.favbrowser.com/enable-google-search-suggestions-in-opera/ Hopefully with Vivaldi you can do it from GUI instead of editing an file though.

I second this suggestion. After 16 years of using Opera, I finally gave up on using Opera 12 today. Vivaldi finally adding tab stacking was what got me to make the switch. The other feature from Opera 12 that I really miss is the one suggested here by mrmamen. I prefer to use a search bar rather than to search in the address bar, and having the search suggestions that Opera did, even if just for Google, would be greatly appreciated.

I'd like to second the suggestion, too, as this is one of the most needed everyday feature that is missing now. I use address bar for searching, and suggestions there would be greatly appreciated, no doubt!
PS There were a couple of posts about this before as well:

I third this suggestion. Also, I guess I'll treat this thread as the feature request for all search suggestions. Here are mine:
- To have the search bar automatically forget/erase my search input after I enter it.
- To have the search be entered in a new tab.
- The autosuggestion, like you mentioned.
If the search bar could do that, I'd use it all the time. Right now, I never use the search bar for these reasons alone.

If I may add to this search suggestion thread, I find the following to be important: YouTube search suggestions!
I hope this will work automatically when YouTube is added as a (custom) search engine, although I'm afraid it won't…I know suggestions are coming (I read this somewhere around here), and I can add custom search engines already, but I cannot get YouTube suggestions to work comfortably in any browser. I used to have this in Opera 12.x (by adding a suggestions url in search.ini) and used it a lot, and have missed it ever since. I have found no other browser with which I could search YouTube that fast. I can not get it to work anymore in the current Opera for example. Apparently it's a difficult thing to add?
I really love searching with different prefixes for different search engines, and it's good to see that Vivaldi has this feature. But, this thread is about suggestions, and they're essential to make searching faster. Now I hope it will also be made easy to use your custom search engines with suggestions.

If I may add to this search suggestion thread, I find the following to be important: YouTube search suggestions!
Some netizens recommend insecure requests to
suggestqueries.google.com, but I found the following URL works fine in the Suggestion field for a custom YouTube search engine:
https://suggestqueries.google.com/complete/search?client=firefox&ds=yt&q=%s
I hope this will work automatically when YouTube is added as a (custom) search engine, although I'm afraid it won't…
Normally it's the website's responsibility to declare its support for suggestions but I guess the Vivaldi team can manually add them for the most used/useful websites.
