FoxNews.com videos not loading

@mib2berlin Thanks again. I'll do more research about the Akamai Player.
You're probably right. It would be great to hear from anyone else with Windows 7 and Vivaldi and if they're having the same issue.
-
agree on that!
-
foxnews not loading is DAMN good thing

Linux here, and foxnews videos are not loading.
-
@paul1149 Thanks so much. I've been searching and searching. No success so far. Not giving up yet!
-
@seeley
It work for me on Linux, too. It is my main system, Windows only for testing as most of my customer use Windows.
Is it may a hardware problem?
Windows on GTX 760, Linux on HD 4000.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin I think @paul1149 said videos are NOT loading on his linux system. And on your Linux videos are loading.
I have two different Windows 7 Pro PCs in two different locations. Completely different hardware, different ISPs and Network Equipment.
Both cannot display foxnews videos using the latest versions of Vivaldi. Both PCs have Windows 7 Pro x64 which seems to be the common denominator. -
@seeley I'm beginning to suspect multiple factors, mostly revolving around whatever codec(s) is needed by the Akamai player.
- Fact: Different OS's come supplied with differing arrays of codecs pre-installed, in part because of the evolution of software and protocols as time goes by.
- Fact: Certain apps programs that require specific codecs may install those codecs into the OS for general availability as part of their program installation process, if they're not already present and generally available. Other apps programs may include needed codecs, but exclusively contained within their app (eg: certain proprietary codecs, often DRM-related, must be paid-for and licensed to an apps maker to be able to play certain media - hence one browser brand can play a certain site's videos while another browser brand can't).
- Fact: After-market codec packs differ in what codecs they contain (and possibly in how they are written ?).
- Possibility: While I'm certainly not a codec expert, it may be possible that not all OS's will support certain codecs equally well, if at all.
- Conjectural: Perhaps the ability of a program to properly access a given, generally-installed codec can be impaired by system/account privileges or system settings.

@seeley
Yes, we have your Windows 7 and @paul1149 Linux not playing and my two different systems with Windows 10 and Linux playing the Videos.
@Blackbird can play after K-Lite Codec Pack install on Windows 10.
I only can think of missing codec or hardware issues.
Did you try to disable hardware acceleration?
Iirc there was problems to play videos with Intel iGPU and/or older GPUs on some video portals.Cheers, mib
-
@seeley said in FoxNews.com videos not loading in Windows 7:
Completely different hardware
For what it is worth, the videos play fine for me (Linux Mint 18.3).
Have you checked if your GPU(s) are blacklisted?
What does vivaldi://gpu show on your system(s)
Initially, only the first section "Graphics Feature Status" needs to be checked e.g any RED entries? -
@Blackbird I spent some time at the Akamai website. Almost all of that information is over my head. Doesn't seem to be available for the end user. I'm going to keep plugging though. There doesn't seem to be a lot of info on codecs associated with the Akamai AMP. I see Flash mentioned but we already determined that it's not required. I'm thinking that the way I have Win 7 setup with minimal windows services enabled may be the culprit. I temporarily enabled a lot of these services but nothing worked.
@mib2berlin Thanks. @Blackbird installed the "Standard" K-Lite Codec and I just installed the latest "Full" version. There's got to be something else. EDIT: Yes. I did disable Hardware Acceleration. I went back and forth with a combination of various other Vivaldi settings probably a dozen times. (restarting in between each toggle),
@TbGbe These videos are working in the Brave browser.
Yes. There's 3 RED entries on vivaldi://gpu:
Out-of-process Rasterization: Unavailable
Hardware Protected Video Decode: Unavailable
Rasterization: UnavailableMy GPU: https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Graphics-Card/GV-N105TWF2OC-4GD#kf
CPU: i5-4690 3.50GHz
20 GB DD3 RAM
I don't know what this means. Maybe I need to update my GPU driver?
I can check my other Win 7 PC (onboard GPU) this evening when I'm there; maybe it will offer some clues. -
@seeley said in FoxNews.com videos not loading in Windows 7:
Out-of-process Rasterization: Unavailable
Hardware Protected Video Decode: UnavailableThose are same as mine - so OK
Rasterization: Unavailable
For me this says "Software only. Hardware acceleration disabled"
Maybe that is O.S. specific ???But no obvious problem. Looks like it must be some sort of codec problem - but I have no idea beyond those already suggested, sorry!
-
I turned off hardware acceleration here, and the videos still don't load.
-
@TbGbe My Hardware Acceleration is enabled even though I get Rasterization: Unavailable. Is your Hardware Acceleration disabled to return a Rasterization: Software only?
Anyway, thanks for your comments. The codec information on the Akamai Adaptive Media Player is hard to find. Let alone installing a codec so the browser can see it.
@paul1149 Thanks Paul
I looked at my other PC (win 7) at my Mom's and it shows the same symptoms with Vivaldi. No video... just a black / dark grey video window. I did try an old version of Firefox and it displays different symptoms.. I get a new video thumbnail with a rotating circular arrow (as if the video is loading) with volume slider and play/pause button but no scrubber/buffer.... but the video never plays/loads.

That's what I generally get here in Vivaldi. Sometimes there is a blank gray window for a moment, but the above description will return.
I thought this was a Vivaldi issue, but I just checked a FN video in Firefox and get the same result. Perhaps there is a systemic problem here on Linux.
-
Follow up on this. Again, I'm on Linux.
Foxnews videos are not working in any browser here, including V, Slimjet, and FF. I thought this was a V problem, but it seems systemic. Have the Windows people here tried other browsers?
-
Since my earlier post in this thread, wherein Vivaldi seemed to be working with Fox videos after loading a codec pak, I've noticed that the videos now actually work only part of the time. Most of the time lately, I'm getting the video fixed-thumbnail/circular-arrow described by @seeley - whereas before installing the codecs, I was getting a solid black window video insert with the circular arrow. Also, I'm seeing these exact same problems on this system with Edge (44.18362.449.0), IE11, and the latest Opera. I'm beginning to wonder if my adblockers and MVPS hosts file are playing havoc with a third-party 'something' related to the Fox player. What's really odd is the inconsistency... just yesterday, one of the videos played fine, but since then, nada.

@paul1149
What I noticed so far on my Windows 7 systems:Vivaldi - No FN videos. Just dark grey box.
FF - No FN videos. I get a new thumbnail with the loading circle (as if the video is loading) w/ volume and play/pause. No scrubber/buffer is displayed.
Brave - FN videos play beautifully.
Actually there were videos on another website, and I can't remember this website to save my life, where Vivaldi wouldn't play, but Brave did.
-
@seeley
OK, thanks. There must be a problem with the videos, to cause this range of browser problems. -
