Issues with DNS over HTTPS (DoH) and VPN usage
-
Hi guys, I recently decided to give Vivaldi a try as I've wanted to switch it out for Opera which has over the years taken a turn for the worse as most of us know. In comparison to both Firefox and Opera there is some strange behavior regarding DNS over HTTPS (DoH). If I don’t use VPN and use the cloudflare dns (on windows, it won’t work with Vivaldi if I put it directly in the router), I will be able to use DNS over HTTPS without any major issues. However if I were to use VPN (OpenVPN connection) it will no longer recognize the cloudflare resolver and fail to connect to 1.1.1.1 as well as DoH, which Opera and Firefox manage to do just fine.
Secure DNS lookups is enabled.
Is this by any chance due to the other browsers targeting cloudflare?
I’m aware that this can be bypassed by using cryptDNS, but it seems silly and tedious to run a third party process just to accomplish something my others browsers already can do. Am I missing something obvious or is this just how things are? -
@Gwen-Dragon Thank you for the reply. I will be eagerly awaiting the full support of dns over https as currently this issue is the only thing stopping me from making Vivaldi my browser of choice.
