Vivaldi started crashing after this mornings update
-
After my morning update Vivaldi started crashing, that now makes 4 browsers that use Google that no longer work on my system. It first started on 12 Dec on my Ubuntu 18.04 in Google Chrome and then in my Brave and all other Google based browsers. So far this one in my Arch Linux ( Endeavour ) is still working. Is anyone else having problems like this?

Hello,
I have Debian Stretch 9.11. After installing the new version of the browser (2.10), the browser crashes repeatedly. -
@Gwen-Dragon
Every few minutes. The monitor blinks first and then the browser crashes. I use a browser at work and now I'm not there to try this shell test profile. However, I have seen that this is probably a Chromium 79 problem, not explicitly of the Vivaldi browser.
Debian Stretch 9.11, kernel 4.9. -
Hello there,
It's not clear
Did Vivaldi crash using the command line provided by Gwen?
Last one, does the crash generate a core dump? -
I have the same problem , Vivaldi's new version crashes on every page and and after every about 10 seconds and fixes and crashes again ..... Just for informing , I installed libffmpeg.so 2016 for Ubuntu as always , Maybe there should be a incompatibility ...... I must also report this as bug that Vivaldi unlike other Chromium-based browsers replaces old ffmpeg with installed one on every upgrade ...... But I will report it later
Now I can't use Vivaldi because of crashing ...... I'm using Debian 10.2 -
this is an Error when trying to open Vivaldi via Terminal :
The Widevine CDM is not installed. Fix this by running: /opt/vivaldi/update-widevine [13245:13245:1222/094754.965361:ERROR:zygote_host_impl_linux.cc(89)] Running as root without --no-sandbox is not supported. See https://crbug.com/638180

I ran the command but Google banned Iran , So it returned 404 Error
I downloaded package by myself , Where should I extract it ? -
@Gwen-Dragon said in Vivaldi started crashing after this mornings update:
No need anymore. May be your version is incompatible. Remove it!
Hello Lady
Maybe not needed anymore , But formerly Vivaldi ffmpeg couldn't playback x264 videos and I should install full version -
@Gwen-Dragon said in Vivaldi started crashing after this mornings update:
Did you run that command with sudo?
Yes Lady
ran as sudo , But google banned Iran and returned 404 Error of HTTP
So started VPN and ran again , But our government restricted suspicious traffics and it couldn't download .... I downloaded by a proxy ( Downloaded the package ) Where should extract the package ; Not FFMPEG , But Widevine ? -
I extracted in opt/vivaldi/lib
But still has same error via Terminal -

Does ffmpeg work? Does Video on
I have installed and install Ubuntu libffmpeg.so file on every Vivaldi upgrade and the library file playbacks all videos , The problem is Vivaldi's preinstalled libffmpeg.so is 1.7 MB ( not 3.2 MB ) and can't playback H264 videos like Instagram ones ..... But with full version it plays back .....
Thanks for Your Help , But could You mind to guide me where should I copy libwidevinecdm.so ? I copied to /opt/vivaldi/lib I see You have independent folder for the "so" file on Your machine , But You use snapshot version of Vivaldi , I use Stable version , Should I create a folder with the name WidevineCdm ? and copy the file to that folder ?
-
@Gwen-Dragon said in Vivaldi started crashing after this mornings update:
Open shell as root, create folder /var/opt/vivaldi/WidevineCdm/_platform_specific/linux_x64/ and copy the lib libwidevinecdmso into
I did but it didn't work , I guess You are using snapshot version of Vivaldi and I'm using Stable version . But I was lucky and VPN is speed got better and did the command ( update-widevine ) via Terminal and it resolved ......
But Vivaldi still getting hang on once every 15 - 20 seconds and stuck for a while and goes on working for 20 seconds and then hangs on again ...... The problem wasn't widevine ..... I hope Vivaldi Team fix this bug soon
Thank You Lady

This is with VPN or without?
I connected to System VPN for Terminal but it's very slow so I have a VPN Extension for Vivaldi too ( it has a better speed )
@Gwen-Dragon said in Vivaldi started crashing after this mornings update:
May be you ISP filtering Internet is causing this.
I disabled the Extension , But the bug still the same
-
The same problem goes to Opera Browser now .... It's an either Chromium bug or incompatibility of some installed packages on Linux with Chromium ( since Princess Mrs @Gwen-Dragon say Vivaldi works well on their Debian platform ) .... I installed old Chromium browser via Synaptic and I hate it , It's very weak and ugly ( I'm just forced to use it ) But now Opera in the other hand has same problem ..... Is any C++ coder here to know the bug in Chromium-browser and report it ?
-
@Gwen-Dragon Yes , It starts , But as I said it stops fully of working , GUI will disabled ( not able to click on any thing ) for 15 seconds and it returns to working for 20 to 30 seconds and stops again and again .... This problem gets worse when I playback a video on Vivaldi , The sound plays back but video freezes .... Opera has the same problem now ....
From Terminal :
ERROR:zygote_host_impl_linux.cc(89)] Running as root without --no-sandbox is not supported. See https://crbug.com/638180.
