Is Vivaldi now asking for me to log in or has my browser been hijacked? This is exactly the reason why I switched from Chrome when it started wanting me to log in. It looks exactly the same as the chrome log in screen. It even said Chromium down at the bottom at one stage, but now it doesn't. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Still doing it. I'm hoping it is some rogue extension running or something and Vivaldi has not gone down this path or I'll be forced to look for another browser.

@donnyhardo Welcome to Vivaldi, I'm sure you'll enjoy it once you get accustomed to how powerful all the features are
Vivaldi will not ask you to log in.
A screenshot of your problem would help, you can paste it right here, or use an image host like Imgur -
@Pathduck This is the screen I'm talking about. I've had Vivaldi for a couple of years, so I'm not new to it. But this just started happening. See the similarity to the Chrome screen below, which is the reason I left Chrome and came to Vivaldi in the first place! Am I doing something wrong?
-
@donnyhardo , this is really something strange. Only 2 things happen to me, either some malware or somehow profile files have been intermingled.
Anyway this screen I have never seen in Vivaldi.
I would try to reset the profile and do a scan with an antimalware, AdwCleaner, Panda Cloud Cleaner, Rogue Cleaner or similar. -
@donnyhardo That just looks like the "Manage Profiles" dialog, it only asks you to select a profile, not log in.
You can read more about profiles here: https://help.vivaldi.com/article/user-profiles/
But it shouldn't appear by default, just when the user clicks the profile icon.
Does it actually appear when Vivaldi starts, or only when you click the icon (on the address bar)? -
Thanks for your replies. Once I clicked on the "You" image it went away and doesn't come back when I restart Vivaldi (unless you click on the toolbar icon). So I was probably over reacting. I thought it was going to make me create an account and have another password to manage etc. Maybe I could have stayed on Chrome! lololol.. No, I prefer Vivaldi, and DuckDuckGo.. anything to stop Big Brother from tracking you has to be a good thing. There is probably no point even trying, but I like to kid myself
Cheers -
@donnyhardo Yes, that can happen, I've had it too after messing around with profiles and command line options. If for instance it can't find the profile currently set as standard, it will ask you to choose what profile to use. After that it will remember it.
Than again, even if you dislike logging in, I advise you to enable Sync. It's a one-time thing, you log in with your Vivaldi net profile and it will sync your history and bookmarks among other things. It's a great feature and since all content is encrypted when stored on Vivaldi's server, even the paranoid feel safe
-
Sync saved my life when my previous PC went to Valhalla with Vivaldi and all my bookmarks and passwords.
New PC> Download Vivaldi> Sync> and everything Ok -
@Catweazle
sync isn't a backup. or was the vivaldi profile the only "data" at your last PC?@donnyhardo
if you used the guest profile and close the window, the next link you click from another program will open the dialog you showed above even if the "normal" user window is open all the time. and because this "state" from the browser is stored in your default profile, a reinstall has no effect (until you check delete my profile when you uninstall vivaldi). -
