How to restore missing tabs after transferring stacked tabs to another window
-
Recently I discover a bug related to missing tabs after moving grouped/stacked tabs to another window - you will randomly lost some or most of the stacked tabs after moving a group of stacked tabs to a different window.
If this happen to you, don't panic & do something stupid, because those missing tabs can be easily recover as long as you didn't shutdown the browser yet, or overwrite current session's content.
Solution:
-
Make sure you have at least 2 windows opened.
-
Close the window with missing stacked tabs, then reopen it via the trashcan.
-
Missing stacked tabs should be restored after the window fully loaded.
This solution should work if you use it immediately after moving the stacked tab to another window. And I would suggest you take note of the number of stacked tabs before transferring 'em to another window. That's all. Hope this help u if you encounter this bug.
EDIT: bug reported VB-60121

@Gwen-Dragon Hi, sorry for the late reply.
IMHO this is not a tips or trick, but a temporary solution to a bug.
I post it in All platforms section for better exposure, not sure if anyone will see this topic if its hidden in this section... -
I just had this happen to me today on MacOS and the latest snapshot only 3 of the 18 tabs I moved made it over, and I don't think I even had any stacked that I moved.
I tried to do your fix, but the close button weirdly did nothing when I tried to close the window. However, I did see the lost tabs in the window panel as a closed window.
As a heavy tab user, it's most disconcerting that tabs can be lost (as I might not have noticed they were missing right away had I been running one of my more typically heavy sessions).

Happened again today, this time on Windows, and this time only 1 of 3 were moved over, and definitely none were stacked, so stacks have nothing to do with the problem.
And this time, the missing tabs weren't in the closed tabs. This is a deal breaker.

I don't know if anyone reported this already, but I submitted VB-65453 for this.
Edit: I totally missed that VB-60121 had already been opened for this.

I should have added, on Mac sync was not enabled and it was seen rather randomly, on Windows sync was enabled and I encountered it frequently, as noted.

We would recommend you to test this again on a clean profile to see if you get the same result. Here are the steps to create a clean profile and test again:
-
Click on the Profile button in the top right corner of the browser window and select 'Manage People'
-
Click on 'Add Person' at the bottom of the pop-out menu.
-
Pick a name for the new profile (or leave it as it is) and click 'Add Person'
And if you are using some extensions in Vivaldi, please try disabling them (vivaldi://extensions/) to see if the problem still occurs while all extensions are disabled.
