Crash fixes and a security bump – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1719.3

@PardusPars you can already, by using the nicknames, just start your search with g, d, b etcetc; you can even change them or define your own ones.

@ruario, would you like to have a look at this problem? https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/42005/how-to-stop-the-pop-up-appearing-without-a-reason-on-a-touch-screen
-
@npro: What is "[Speed Dial] No immediate feedback after a link is clicked (VB-58111)" in the first place and when did it become a problem?
All I know is that in 2.9, for the first time that I recall, clicking something in Speed Dial is slow. It highlights the box and then sits there for about 2 seconds before going to the site. It's not my connection, either.
But in this snapshot, it's normal: click, go. This is the only thing that I see in the release notes that might account for it, depending on what the above means, exactly.

Is it natural for this update to checkmark the option and ask me if Vivaldi is default browser on Startup? I have it disabled. Also, some extra extensions are showing in the address bar that weren't there before.
Also, I wanted to ask this for a while. How can I turn off lazy loading (I think it's called) for backgrounds tabs? I want the tabs to load the content without me clicking on them first.
-
will developer tools ever get fixed?
Aren't developers one of the biggest power users? Isn't Vivaldi mostly about power users?I don't get it...I know it might be hard to solve but this should be one of the top priorities. If it is not possible to solve it... Just say so.
-
@MetalFatigue The priorities for ordinary users should take precedence, because ordinary users are far more numerous than developers, even though Vivaldi is a browser for more computer-savvy users than Chrome or Edge.

@rseiler It's a 2.9 thing if I remember right, having to do with the "beforeunload" event, its many manifestations were discussed here in the snapshots. You can search for "beforeunload" eventually you can read them all.

As well as the irritating CTRL+ENTER doing a search instead of directly going to a website as expected (I know I shouldn't "expect" it at the moment, but it does keep catching me out...) I have just noticed another oddity:
After opening a bunch of links from a couple of main pages (e.g. forum threads from their indexes), when I close the pages afterwards, they switch left/right/left/right in order of their tabs rather than opening in the order they were created. I have "cycle in recently used order" selected in the settings.
So what I expect to see on the tab bar is:
[index] (start opening links in background)
[index][1]
[index][1][2]
[index][1][2][3] (start closing windows)
[1][2][3]
[2][3]
[3]What I had instead was something like:
[index] (start opening links in background)
[index][1]
[index][1][2]
[index][1][2][3] (start closing windows)
[1][2][3]
[1][2]
[2]By the way, after this happened I tried to reproduce it but couldn't.
Anyone else seen something like this happen?

And then after I post this and close the page, it does it again.
I was opening threads on this forum and on Airliners.net when the weird behaviour occured. Each time I closed the leftmost Vivaldi page I was presented the rightmost Airliners page and vice versa.
I tried to check the behaviour in a new window by opening multiple news articles from BBC.com and Guardian.co.uk but in that case it closed all the BBC articles in sequence and then all the Guardian ones.

@mossman It’s not so important what you have set for tab cycling, important is close tab activation and (maybe) also new tab position.

I actually quoted the wrong one by mistake - I meant "activate in recently used order" (I also have "cycle in recently used order"). New tab is set to "as last tab".
-
@mossman and what about always activate related tab?

Off. As it always has been. The point is that when I'm going through Vivaldi pages opened first it should not be jumping to the last opened Airliners page - and certainly not jumping Vivaldi/Airliners/Vivaldi/Airliners... that has nothing to do with the order they were opened or viewed at all.
-
@mossman Not able to reproduce.
-
@MetalFatigue I assume you're referring to some pretty advanced use of it, where there's apparently quirks? I use it from time to time to inspect an element, and things very basic like that, and don't know how it differs from the same thing in Chrome.
-
@gwen-dragon: and why not?
Don't you feel you are related to that old community?
We Vets, all are... -
@newscpq While history and heritage live in the heart, in the real world, the new Opera management made sure that Opera history and heritage had no role in their development and their business model. The past is past. We deal with the present.

- Check if Vivaldi is the default is normal for a fresh install. If you update an existing install where it is disabled, that should not happen
- No extensions are installed with a default installation. Do you perhaps mean bookmarks? If so, just delete them.
- I don't know how to turn off lazy loading of background tabs. See this thread or search for "lazy loading" for other topics.
