Crash fixes and a security bump – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1719.3

@ugly On Windows, if you tick the "don't show this again" box then it focuses the address bar every time. Try it.
On Windows and Linux, the behaviour appears the same. If you open the private window with the intro, the addressbar is not focused. Without the intro it works fine.
It's an easy workaround. And the issue is a very minor inconvenience. But, I prefer having the intro on.
-
@ugly Cool, so at least you have a way to focus it on Linux as well until it's fixed

Window close seems not to work anymore. I have several applications that open a pop up and later close the window again. Now the content and the URL of the pop up disappear but the window stay open when the application close the window.
Worked in 1705.30 -

[BUG] "open saved session" ignores the "open session in new window" option DE-selection, in incognito mode
- start vivaldi in incognito mode ("vivaldi --incognito", from the command line, or a windows shortcut)
- open a saved session AND UNselect the "open session in a new window" option
- you'll see that Vivaldi opens a new window, instead
Vivaldi shouldn't open a new Window, as I unflagged the option.
can anybody confirm?
W10 x64, here.
-
@newscpq I can confirm the behaviour. It does not seem right.
-
The doomed "Confirm Download" popup came back on my install (Linux 64-bits). I did not change any settings but it came back. How to remove it, so it will not annoy me any longer?
-
When I close a tab, the next one loads (but isn't activated). Can someone confirm?
- after closing a tab, focus previous one (ignore related)
- open new tab after active tab
- I have fst tab start page and work in next few tabs; when I finish something, I should get back to it w/o loading any old tabs
-
@potmeklecbohdan I think I've seen a bug reported for this. VB-59860 might be the cause for this - keep an eye out in changelogs.
-
@PardusPars you can already, by using the nicknames, just start your search with g, d, b etcetc; you can even change them or define your own ones.
-
@ruario, would you like to have a look at this problem? https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/42005/how-to-stop-the-pop-up-appearing-without-a-reason-on-a-touch-screen
-
@npro: What is "[Speed Dial] No immediate feedback after a link is clicked (VB-58111)" in the first place and when did it become a problem?
All I know is that in 2.9, for the first time that I recall, clicking something in Speed Dial is slow. It highlights the box and then sits there for about 2 seconds before going to the site. It's not my connection, either.
But in this snapshot, it's normal: click, go. This is the only thing that I see in the release notes that might account for it, depending on what the above means, exactly.
-
Is it natural for this update to checkmark the option and ask me if Vivaldi is default browser on Startup? I have it disabled. Also, some extra extensions are showing in the address bar that weren't there before.
Also, I wanted to ask this for a while. How can I turn off lazy loading (I think it's called) for backgrounds tabs? I want the tabs to load the content without me clicking on them first.
-
will developer tools ever get fixed?
Aren't developers one of the biggest power users? Isn't Vivaldi mostly about power users?I don't get it...I know it might be hard to solve but this should be one of the top priorities. If it is not possible to solve it... Just say so.
-
@MetalFatigue The priorities for ordinary users should take precedence, because ordinary users are far more numerous than developers, even though Vivaldi is a browser for more computer-savvy users than Chrome or Edge.

@rseiler It's a 2.9 thing if I remember right, having to do with the "beforeunload" event, its many manifestations were discussed here in the snapshots. You can search for "beforeunload" eventually you can read them all.

As well as the irritating CTRL+ENTER doing a search instead of directly going to a website as expected (I know I shouldn't "expect" it at the moment, but it does keep catching me out...) I have just noticed another oddity:
After opening a bunch of links from a couple of main pages (e.g. forum threads from their indexes), when I close the pages afterwards, they switch left/right/left/right in order of their tabs rather than opening in the order they were created. I have "cycle in recently used order" selected in the settings.
So what I expect to see on the tab bar is:
[index] (start opening links in background)
[index][1]
[index][1][2]
[index][1][2][3] (start closing windows)
[1][2][3]
[2][3]
[3]What I had instead was something like:
[index] (start opening links in background)
[index][1]
[index][1][2]
[index][1][2][3] (start closing windows)
[1][2][3]
[1][2]
[2]By the way, after this happened I tried to reproduce it but couldn't.
Anyone else seen something like this happen?

By the way, after this happened I tried to reproduce it but couldn't.
And then after I post this and close the page, it does it again.
I was opening threads on this forum and on Airliners.net when the weird behaviour occured. Each time I closed the leftmost Vivaldi page I was presented the rightmost Airliners page and vice versa.
I tried to check the behaviour in a new window by opening multiple news articles from BBC.com and Guardian.co.uk but in that case it closed all the BBC articles in sequence and then all the Guardian ones.

@mossman It’s not so important what you have set for tab cycling, important is close tab activation and (maybe) also new tab position.
