Crash fixes and a security bump – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1719.3

@nutcracker In Settings, Tabs, Tab Features, enable Include Active Tab in Selection. That should fix your shortcut.
-
@ruario: Still, it's interesting when that number changes
-
@pesala: Thanks a lot!!! That's it! My whole previous comment is wrong, it was a matter of a setting! Thanks again!

@mossman A/V are just man, never regretted ditching them 4 years ago, they cause more problems than solve, as it was proven again
Yes and no.
I used no AV for a long time... back when I was a geeky student and in full control of my system. That was because my experience with Norton and McAfee on other PCs was that they were incredible resource hogs (and you had to pay for them) and "I would never get a virus anyway".
Then when AVG came along in the 90s I installed it and would run it periodically - and it did turn up some hidden nasties (in e.g. shared Flash games). So it was natural to enable it when I moved in with my wife.
But then I managed to get a couple of really nasty viruses which completely bypassed AVG (one was ransomware which I was able to recover from but required reinstallation of Windows afterwards as the infection had gone so deep). And meanwhile AVG had got progressively more bloated and annoying and "support" for all the issues users were having was some call-centre types who didn't really have a clue)...
Now I'm using Immunet which is free, lightweight and (IMO) reasonably trustworthy (now part of Cisco). No issues so far except for dropping XP support on my older machines.
The long and the short of it: I think it's prudent to have some kind of AV (especially on shared machines) since even I have suffered attacks despite doing my best to keep things safe and clean. However I agree that most of them return too many false positives and are generally useless resource-hogs (McAfee on my work PC often spends a couple of days heating up my desk area with 80% disk and 20% CPU use - really wish I could junk that rubbish!).

@ugly Hmm. I just tried it. It is, here. Let me fire up a Linux box and see what it does there. I will have to update, because it's been off for over a month.
Okay, thanks for testing. I looked into it a bit more. It seems to be an issue with the private window intro. I unchecked the box for the private window intro and it opens directly to the speed dial with the cursor in the addressbar.
-
@ugly On Windows, if you tick the "don't show this again" box then it focuses the address bar every time. Try it.
-
Does it still have the bug when autocomplete in the address field takes ages?
-
Yay, VB-57575 had been a PITA for a while now, so happy it was addressed
-
@O_Love I've been facing this issue for some time now, but it happens nearly always (I usually type the URL). But I'm always too lazy to report/discuss it (or simply forget about it ).

On Windows and Linux, the behaviour appears the same. If you open the private window with the intro, the addressbar is not focused. Without the intro it works fine.
It's an easy workaround. And the issue is a very minor inconvenience. But, I prefer having the intro on.
-
@ugly Cool, so at least you have a way to focus it on Linux as well until it's fixed

Window close seems not to work anymore. I have several applications that open a pop up and later close the window again. Now the content and the URL of the pop up disappear but the window stay open when the application close the window.
Worked in 1705.30 -
@Valdyn Windows 10 (18362,449), 64 Bit Snapshot

[BUG] "open saved session" ignores the "open session in new window" option DE-selection, in incognito mode
- start vivaldi in incognito mode ("vivaldi --incognito", from the command line, or a windows shortcut)
- open a saved session AND UNselect the "open session in a new window" option
- you'll see that Vivaldi opens a new window, instead
Vivaldi shouldn't open a new Window, as I unflagged the option.
can anybody confirm?
W10 x64, here.
-
@newscpq I can confirm the behaviour. It does not seem right.
-
The doomed "Confirm Download" popup came back on my install (Linux 64-bits). I did not change any settings but it came back. How to remove it, so it will not annoy me any longer?
-
When I close a tab, the next one loads (but isn't activated). Can someone confirm?
- after closing a tab, focus previous one (ignore related)
- open new tab after active tab
- I have fst tab start page and work in next few tabs; when I finish something, I should get back to it w/o loading any old tabs
-
@potmeklecbohdan I think I've seen a bug reported for this. VB-59860 might be the cause for this - keep an eye out in changelogs.
-
@PardusPars you can already, by using the nicknames, just start your search with g, d, b etcetc; you can even change them or define your own ones.
-
@ruario, would you like to have a look at this problem? https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/42005/how-to-stop-the-pop-up-appearing-without-a-reason-on-a-touch-screen
