@cheekybuddha: well done!

[Sync][Crash] Vivaldi crashes when trying to authenticate (VB-55979)
Is this the bug that caused V to not even open after updating on Win 10?
Just want to check before I try it!
-
Last first.
-
What the...
no "Ctrl+Enter" fix already ? -
Sadly, this isn't the same bug, or if it is, then it doesn't fix it
Tried to update - V won't re-open.
Had to downgrade back to 1675.11
Does anyone have instructions on how to overcome this? my linux boxes upgrade fine.
I don't really wan to nuke my profile, since things like gestures don't get updated with sync.

[DevTools][Regression] Key ‘t’ can not be entered in Developer Tools (VB-59008)
Thank you for this!
It has been tedious having to enter:
'T'.toLowerCase()
and then copy/paste the output 't' !!!
-
@npro The setting is completely gone in settings so probably more than a fix it's needed.
Also, search in settings still resets results after few typed letters -
@iAN-CooG yep that's why it falls exactly into the described category of "serious regressions"
-
Thank you for focusing attention on DevTools. Eagerly anticipating the JS breakpoint fix... I have my fingers crossed all is going well. Thanks guys!
-
Aww nothing related to text entry on MacOS. Boo.
-
I'm not sure if this is a regression since 2.8 or before that, but I'm still seeing tabs not opening until the tab bar is updated (VB-57508)

Hi, if you get an error message about missing H264 codec on Linux run:
sudo /opt/vivaldi-snapshot/update-ffmpeg
For Linux beginners it is may not simple to understand the description on:
https://help.vivaldi.com/article/html5-proprietary-media-on-linux/
Other distribution of Linux has may different place for "update-ffmpeg", I use Opensuse Tumbleweed.Cheers, mib

@cheekybuddha: You using standalone?
I have installed stable version normally, and snapshot standalone. It happens that snapshot won't open when I have stable open. Than I go to task manager and end task for snapshot version (black icon), than you can open snapshot version normally. I dont know if you have same problem. -
@cheekybuddha
I'm not sure where to post this, so I'm putting it here.
The previous three versions of Vivaldi snapshot have failed to run for some users (including me). From previous discussions we're convinced? that it's caused by Symantec/Norton products interfering with Chromium browsers since ver 78.0. But on a whim I just installed The latest Chrome, and it runs perfectly. It identifies itself as "Version 78.0.3904.70 (Official Build) (64-bit)", but it installed itself in "Program Files (X86)" instead of "Program Files". Does anyone know a reason why Vivaldi 64 bit shouldn't be installed in (X86)? -
@justjohn said in Vivaldi 2.9 RC 1 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1705.27:
Does anyone know a reason why Vivaldi 64 bit shouldn't be installed in (X86)?
The
Program Files (x86)
directory is for 32-bit programs installed on a 64-bit OS. So 64-bit Vivaldi would correctly be installed inProgram Files
by default. No idea why Chrome would do that though.

@Pathduck So I tried it. Installed Vivaldi 1705.27 64 bit in "Program Files (X86)" and it launches; apparently not messed with by Symantec. It picked up the bookmarks from 1675.11 but not the passwords. It does not save typed ones, either. Uninstalled, put 1675.11 back just in case, and am running a standalone 1705.27. Chrome works, so it must save its passwords somewhere in the 32 bit world.
