How to Force a Sync?
-
Is it possible to initiate a sync process? If I want the browser to connect right now to the server to upload & download data, such as when I've sent a tab from one system to another, is there some button, or some sort of hack/workaround that could do this? Maybe changing the sync settings & then changing them back, or whatever is necessary, just some way to tell the browser to do it right now.
I posted in All Platforms as I want to be able to do this on both the desktop (Windows & Linux) and on Android. So any guidance on any of those skus is appreciated.

Hi, vivaldi://sync > "Trigger GetUpdates" do this.
It should be possible to add a button for it since Vivaldi for Android has it already in the sync settings.
May you make a feature request.Cheers, mib

Cool, let me test it out, I might be able to expose a button in my UI with some CSS or JS mod. I was thinking that might work but wasn't certain.
In Android... there isn't a trigger button in the Sync Settings, just Apply Changes. I have tried doing the toggle Synchronize All Data and click Apply, but it doesn't seem this is kicking off the sync.

I run into this in Linux (Antergos / Arch), where a freshly started Vivaldi syncs immediately to any changes on any machine, without me having to do anything manually, but after the system (with Vivaldi open) has hibernated and reawakened, Vivaldi doesn't seem to sync at all. Sometimes for days...
"Apply Changes" doesn't solve the problem here unless I disable sync and re-enable it, which requires typing a "secure" and difficult password. I end up closing and restarting Vivaldi a lot...
Maybe right-clicking the Sync cloud icon could offer "Sync now"? Or I just noticed it offers "Simulate browser restart" - wonder if that would work when sync seems stuck...
