Vivaldi: Vivaldi.net logins short-lived
-
Hi, since I still experience wonky session/login handling over here, I've decided to open a thread dedicated to it. Issue My Vivaldi.net logins continuously survive just for some days (1-3) in Vivaldi whereas a competitive control login in Firefox still exists (at least for the last test run). A 2nd control login to another community site is also still open excluding a general login/session issue in Vivaldi. I do observe this specific login instability ever since I started to test Vivaldi (Vivaldi.1.0.141.2.x64). I've deleted the profile many times, and I switched to the 32-bit - no cure. Am I alone? someone

For me, every time I install a new build I have to login again (auto update).
-
My own Vivaldi log-ins also seem only to last for 1-3 days. (This is currently using Vivaldi 1.0.252.3, 32-bit, installed as stand-alone, but the phenomenon has been going on nearly forever with earlier Vivaldi versions.)
-
Right now my FF login had been gone as well, I had to re-login to post this message.
saudiqbal, Blackbird, thanks for your replies. At least, I'm not alone out there. I'm still note sure wether this is by design or could be considered a bug.

Same thing here with latest x64.

Hi,
is it possible to get some sort of official reply on that matter?
Of course, ist ok when Vivaldi sessions get reset on every update (during intense development progress). But to have to re-login on every 2nd/3rd day is really annyoing (and contradicts the "Remember Me"-option seriously, doesn't it?).
It makes me feel uncomfortable, especially because all other site sessions do not show this behaviour. So may I humbly ask to extend the cookie(s) lifetime(s)?
Thank you.

I have had the same issue for a number of Snapshot updates. Now happening with Beta x32 Standalone, on Win 7 x64. Not sure why - is it happening on the other installations?

I have the feeling it has to do with the forum itself. I've had something like this happen ever since Vivaldi first started up their forums, and in those days, I was using mostly Opera 12 and Firefox (since the Vivaldi browser wasn't issued at that point). The 'short' log-in period wasn't especially noticeable at that time, since I wasn't visiting the forums here all that frequently, but I recall it did still seem to happen back then. In any case, since installing the earliest Vivaldi versions, I've visited here far more often while using the Vivaldi browser, and throughout that time, my log-ins only seem to last from 1 to 3 days for me. On the other hand, other forums I visit using the Vivaldi browser behave in their own normal fashion (as they always have with my other browsers), one having a log-in that lasts about 5-9 days, and another that lasts for weeks on end (unless I update the browser or dump the log-in cookies). So, to me, it seems the log-in behavior reflects the Vivaldi forum site, not the browser… in which case, the complaint should probably be posted over in the Vivialdi general site forum.

Hi litehorse3 & Blackbird,
yes, with all my other fora and sites with long-lived sessions I have the proof that the cause is on the server side, that is Vivaldi.net.
… in which case, the complaint should probably be posted over in the Vivialdi general site forum.
https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/suggestion-box/571-are-you-able-to-stay-logged-in-to-vivaldi-net#38740 I thought to get more attention over here.

I have noticed that if you log in on another browser or system, your previous logins seem to be invalidated. So if you log in at work, you'll have to log in again at home. If you log in on your mobile device, your computer will be logged out. Or if you use various browsers on the same computer, logging in with Vivaldi invalidates the logins on your other browser(s) and vice versa.
-
Same experience here. Plus: apparently I do have to wait (for how long?) a previous & ended login does not prevent me from login in again (lagging effect).
-
Humble Bump.

Since no one has replied yet I just quote myself. It's a real annoyance and pity for those who frequently try to give feedback on the progress.
