The digital note-taking app, right in your browser

Attachments are really useful but we need to be able to sync them to unleash their full potential...
So e.g. a 700MB video attachment should be synced too? I wonder when Vivaldi runs out of server space...
-
@QuHno For now attachments are limited to images.
I agree that there should be some limits probably.But using unsynced attachments is totally pointless if you have more than one machine/OS.

Just wondering, is there some kind of hard limit set to the size of a note? I mean, what's to stop some muppet deciding to base64-encode an image to attach to a note, and then complaining it "doesn't work" when it crashes or hangs the browser?
You just know if the option is there, someone will find a way to use/abuse it, just the way people work.
I just tried with a 2MB image and it hangs like hell while loading the note but seems to work... 200MB was a no-go
Maybe impose a hard limit of say 1MB for a note, or even less? Considering the complete works of Shakespeare can fit into about 5MB I'd say it was a fair limit :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye:

If you look into the User Data\Default\notes (forward slashes for Linux users ) you will notice that the screenshots are already saved in base64 encoding ...
... sadly in JPEG format, which wastes a lot of space in comparison to webP.

There is a chromium limitation how big base64 stuff can be before it chokes. I ran into that with a canvas drawing application I wrote, where chomium just cut off the end - resulting in the above mentioned problem.
AFAIK atm it is only possible to sync Notes via JSON and that does not include BLOBs (Binary Large OBjects), because JSON is a purely string based format, so attachments would need to be base64 encoded - which all the problems base64 encoding has.

I'm still getting the note duplication bug. I'm using Vivaldi on 3 devices now (desktop, laptop and phone), and all of them have the latest version. Am I alone in this?

@sinnovation
No, the same for me if I enable notes sync on mobile.
I use latest snapshots on all devices but it should work without duplication on stable and Android beta, too. It does not.Cheers, mib

@sinnovation I'm also seeing it regularly... but I still haven't had enough time / enthusiasm to completely de-sync, clear and re-sync the nine active sessions I have spread around various devices (as recommended by Vivaldi).
I'll just stick to manually deleting the ~10 copied notes per day for now...
-
@sinnovation You are not alone...
Last week count of my duplicates exceeded 22000 and I had to disable synchronisation of notes on my phone because it caused creation of ~1000 new clones every restart.
My notes collection can now be described as a big pile of barely usable mess

I like Vivaldi Notes. I hope for quick sharing notes with new integrated mail M3, or sharing with FB, etc...
-
@sinnovation You are not alone. I had at one time over a dozen duplicates on one note before I caught it. The reason my count was low is because I don't take a lot of notes. Another reason is because nearly all my notes have a very short life. When I need to take a note I'm so very glad Vivaldi has a built-in note taking panel.
