Snapshot 1.0.252.3 - Typed history dropdown, more polish on Web-panels, Extensions and smooth scroll
-
Hi, Since we made you wait a little for the last snapshot, we decided to throw out a update a bit quicker this time. Fixes to extensions, vertical tabs and Quick Commands, web panel improvements, a prettier preferences page and typed history. https://vivaldi.net/en-US/blogs/teamblog/item/47-snapshot-1-0-252-3-typed-history-dropdown-more-polish-on-web-panels-extensions //Christian Dysthe - Vivaldi Technologies

Thank you very much for bringing back drop down in address bar.
It just needs a drop down button inside the address bar and an option to disable this really annoying URL auto complete in the address bar.
Thanks once again for proving that you are listening to us, really appreciate it. All other browsers are becoming crappy. Opera, Edge and Chrome have the same shitty omnibar, really annoying.

I didn't notice smooth scrolling at all
Zoom is not working. -
I posted this in thread for the previous snapshot. Reposting it here since it's something that started happening after updating.
–---
Ever since installing 1.0.252.3 (Developer Build) (32-bit) I can't run Vivaldi from a shortcut by double clicking on it. I have to right click on the shortcut and run as administrator. Double clicking only works when I run Vivaldi from the installation folder.
The following error also appears in a debug text file in the installation folder.
[0822/061142:ERROR:client_util.cc(272)] Could not find exported function RelaunchChromeBrowserWithNewCommandLineIfNeeded
I tried reinstalling an older version to see if the problem would go anyway but it doesn't.

Thanks for your Work!
It seems the Mouse gesture "open link in new tab" is broken. Only a new tab is opened.
Last Version this feature has been working is the Vivaldi.1.0.233.3

As a follow up to my previous post about my Vivaldi shortcut troubles, this is what the vivaldi installer text file says.

[0822/165037:ERROR:install_util.cc(372)] Failed opening Software\Vivaldi to update installer stage; result: 2I'm guessing this has something to do with my issue.

I fixed my problem. Here's what I did for anyone that might run into the same issue.
I uninstalled Snapshot 1.0.252.3 and removed all traces of Vivaldi from my computer including the registry. I disabled my AV in case it was somehow interfering with the installer. I ran the installer as admin and installed for all users. The shortcut created on the desktop still didn't work when I double clicked it so I deleted it. I created a new shortcut from the Vivaldi exe in the installation directory. I've had no issues so far with the new shortcut.
I tried creating a new shortcut before but that didn't work. I think the key was completely removing Vivaldi before reinstalling it.

Beside the bookmark notes list I added to the last build's topic, here is two more:
- if you have folders inside your bookmark bar, middle click on the folder's items won't open them in new tab (it just do nothing)
- also you have no favicons for the items in the bookmark bar's folders
And for the smooth scroll i copy my note here as it is rather relevant to this topic:
I'm very glad that we have smooth scrolling, but I feel that it needs a little tweak:
example this works really nice for me: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/smoothscroll/nbokbjkabcmbfdlbddjidfmibcpneigj - I just changed the default step size to 300 -
Smooth scroll can't be disabled, even if I turn it off in settings. Please implement dropdown button also in address field. Only automatic video playing prevents me to use Vivaldi as main browser.

This version won important resources. Allows you to track the expense of internet data allowance 3G or 4G and the amount of data that a website requires to be displayed.
-
Random problems with displaying tab content… - website loads but nothing is displayed
Happens rare and random (many tabs, Win x32)

Confirmed. Also seen this in previous snapshots.

Aaaaalso…
Problems with search field (in one tab it works, but in another one it works buggy)Instead of entering letters after each letter key press cursor goes to the end of field and no letter is being entered
Arrows are working properly(many tabs, Win x32)

I'm not sure if it's me or…
What could be the reason back and forward gestures are missing in mouse gesture settings?
And it's not from this release but for a while now.
tnx(win7 64bit)

Arrows are working properly(many tabs, Win x32)I've had something similar, particularly involving use of the StartPage engine. After starting the browser, the first search from the search box works; thereafter the same thing happens that you're reporting. Now I've also observed it when trying with Google as the search engine. I bug-reported the initial problems involving StartPage as VB-8646.

Copying from address bar will still copy last used bookmarked address. And not only that, it will duplicate the bookmark once or several times.
Address bar history will now autofill if the mouse is over an address.
There's a + symbol shown briefly at the left edge when closing a tab.
Open in new tab (mouseright+down on link) still doesn't work. -
Is smooth scroll supposed to be kinda jumpy still? It still seems to jump a whole line at a time, just with a kind-of transition in-between animation to smooth out the jump.
If I remember correctly, this is how "smooth scrolling" worked in the old Opera, which I've always assumed was due to some internal limitation and have always envied FF and Chrome the truly smooth scrolling extensions. When you say "smooth scrolling", I think of something like what the nuOpera extension Scroller (which works in Vivaldi if you install it manually) provides - a true smooth, non-jumpy scrolling.
I wouldn't really mind if this is how it's supposed to be as long as extensions like Scroller still work as well, but I'd be kinda surprised.
