Here are a few quick fixes and a Chromium update before the weekend.

Why don't you change the appearance of the menu? For me it spoils the aesthetically modern look of Vivaldi and reminds me of Windows XP times.
I wrote it in this post.
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/39346/refresh-the-appearance-of-the-menuAnd it's worth seeing a post @Persal who wrote about editing menus.
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/24123/allow-editing-of-menusIn my opinion, refreshing the look and feel of editing will greatly improve the feeling of using a browser with a modern interface.
-
At least one undeclared bugfix compared to the previous SS: now clicking inside a tab stack doesn't randomly switch the tabs anymore.
-
@MattSolo45 It's harder than what it seems.
To edit menus, they have to write a control interface which hooks the chromium core to change it "on fly" - or rewrite the entire menus system (which is probably even harder) to edit/theme them.
And this could be the perfect ground of bugs, both on the core and on UI/UX side (as Vivaldi is cross platform, and menus have to be adapted for three OSes) -
@ian-coog: It was fixed by us reverting (removing) another problematic fix. I should have listed something. I have just updated the changelog for you. Thanks for the reminder

@ruario Thanks a lot, have a nice weekend

@Hadden89 Well, unfortunately, it requires work, but well. It's like saying that I won't replace any parts in the car, because I'll have to take out the engine. It will take time and there may be mistakes, but the work will pay off anyway. So I don't see the problem with that. And Vivaldi chose his own browser engine so he has to take into account the difficulties.
-
The third snapshot in a row, the complete lack of clues in the search field. Any search engine.
-
The menus, for now, are the chromium native ones until the appropriate work is done by the Vivaldi devs to apply their own UI layer on top, as Hadden mentioned. But can you elaborate on what is wrong with the appearance of the context menus and how exactly would you make them better?
-
@lavik: Confirmed. Search suggestions don't seem to work consistently.

4 or 5 versions later, still waiting for a fix for devtools freezing during JS breakpoint detection. Is there an ETA for that? Very, very annoying because it actually breaks interaction on all currently open tabs and not just the one where I'm debugging JS.
Also, you guys have recently introduced a brand new issue.
- Open devtools on a page
- Load a different app and leave Vivaldi running in the background
- Come back to Vivaldi and press F5 to refresh
- The whole page briefly shows the Vivaldi logo and devtools disappears
This is especially annoying if I'm emulating a device such as an iPhone X etc. It will leave whitespace where devtools used to be.
As much as I love the look and feel of this browser, it is definitely not ready for prime time.
Vivaldi: 2.8.1662.4 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Revision: 6f726d0a04bdd8dc9eacbf5716fbacdc0c274564
OS: Windows 10 OS Version 1903 (Build 18362.356) -
@ian-coog: Yeah,must better now.
-
@mtaki14: We have someone looking at it
-
@starpaw: I am also desperately waiting for this bug to be fixed. Without this bug being fixed it's impossible for me to switch completely to vivaldi.
-
Yep. It's a pain briefly switching back to Chrome just for devtools purposes. The team really needs to squash all devtools related bugs so the browser becomes fully usable for all intents and purposes. It will be a glorious day when I can finally rid myself of multiple browsers!

Is it possible to show %20 instead of spaces in the address bar?
-
VB-57344 "Keyboard shortcuts for mute operations don't work" -submitted today for previous build- is relevant with this build as well.
-
Requesting revert of opening a new vivaldi window when clicking a link on a different vitual desktop.
It's making me (more) crazy.

Multimedia keys are still messed up. Disabling Hardware Media Key Handling does nothing, it disables Multimedia key usage in Vivaldi but it still "eats" the command instead of ignoring it. PLEASE fix this, it's been an issue for months apparently and makes it unusable for anyone with dedicated Multimedia keys.
