Option to clear cookies on exit and dedicated whitelist

Clearing cookies and other data on exit is now available on the Stable version of Vivaldi on Android in the just released Vivaldi 3.5. See what else is new in the release blog post.

@linhartj There are session only options for storing History and Cookies available in Settings > Privacy. You can also set the browser to not open with the previously open tabs in Settings > General > Startup > Startup with by selecting a different option from 'Last Session'.
So compared to Android, this just leaves Cache, which at this stage needs to be delete manually.

@jane-n This is true, as in we can automate clearing browsing data on exit. But we aren’t able to whitelist sites, which is probably an equally important part of the request. I’d argue it isn’t done.

@jane-n Should I do yet another request now, or can we expect this at some point? The problem is following: while we can whitelist sites in site settings, this whitelist only applies to the general cookie settings and reverses the setting of allow, don’t allow, except third party, &c. for dedicated sites. This doesn’t influence clearing browsing data on exit.

I guess everybody blocks third party cookies have one.

@mib2berlin As explained above, the current cookie whitelist doesn’t work for this, as it serves a different purpose. And no, I believe you can’t reuse it, but that’s not my problem, I’m not a Vivaldi dev. I doubt 5 min will be enough to handle this.

Overall data clearing, cookie management et al. need a rework anyway, even on desktop. We have mixed chromium and Vivaldi internal settings, which is simply confusing for users. Working this from patch to patch and adding to the current monster won’t better the situation overall. But this is out of the scope of this request…

I am very new to Vivaldi which I like a lot except for the business of cookies.
I simply want a whitelist and all other cookies without exception deleted on exit not too difficult I would have thought unless vivaldi is part of the ccokie-conspiracy vivaldi please do not block off this possibility.

What I find is that Vivaldi cookie settings just do not work. Further none of the vivaldi cookie management extensions work and all the internet advice on this subject just does not work. How can this be!!!!

I find it hard to believe this is just accidental after the years vivaldi has been around, someone tell me I am wrong.

I was a Firefox user for many years and finally uninstalled FF last week as slowly their cookie function deteriorated to the point where I would not put up with it any longer

For some site to put a cookie on my PC without my permission and for it to persist after the session is over is trespass, theft of my storage and waste of my time. So please vivaldi lead the way and get it right

However if you get to the Chrome cookie settings (not available through the vivaldi UI) then that does work mostly.

@derbaron607 Since you mention extensions I take it you are talking about the desktop browser. This can already be achieved in chrome://settings/cookies, where you can set a whitelist. But the request is about the mobile browser, where this isn’t possible yet.

@luetage I think the extensions were mentioned as it is a pain without some kind of expressions import/export from the V-desktop relying on an extension... but there is not support yet for this or that.
I only do it again on desktop as I managed "to kinda fix" CAD. No way I'll consider the sub-optimal chromium thing.

@Hadden89 It’s unlikely Vivaldi will introduce extensions, for there is no support for developing mobile extensions and releasing them on chrome web store.

Hi all, +1 vote, this is definitely a missing feature, I was very surprised it's not in Vivaldi already -> All platforms.

Similarly to other participants of this thread - I want my cookies to be kept for a session (or shorter; side-note: there are extensions to discard all cookies e.g. every 10 minutes),
nevertheless, some of the cookies should be protected and never deleted automatically. It's really annoying to go through all 2-factors and other trouble multiple times a day.

UI-wise, you can just add a button to protect/whitelist/allowlist a cookie next to the delete button:

(Store user's configuration no matter the current setting, but hide this feature when Accept cookies is set to All)

Requesting a cookie management feature for Vivaldi on Android, where specific cookies for specific websites or services can be kept permanently, and or managed by schedule times; that is until I choose to remove those specific cookies manually or alter the time period for which they can be kept and removed.
For clarification when I say “kept permanently”, and “manage cookies”, ”The Clearing browsing data/Cookies and site data” or, “Site settings”, or “Clear session data” option in the settings of Vivaldi Andriod should have no impact on this proposed solution as exact intent is that the specific websites or services are trusted and therefore Whitelisted and should NEVER be modified by any other setting which impact cookies in the Andriod version of the browser.

Yes. I am aware that the option to store cookies permanently on the desktop version of Vivaldi is available, as only after a long frustrating search I was able to find and figure how to do this so I could keep Microsoft webmail client specific settings enabled; so i don't have to set them every day when I log into said. However I can find no option to do so, whether by Chrome Flags or Chrome extensions or external managers (which I PREFER NOT TO USE because security concerns and lack of guarantee of permanence and development) for the Andriod version of Vivaldi.

Looking forward to some response.
I'd actually pay for this feature or for a script to do same

Hi, i just added a request for the same feature for Vivaldi Andriod, as its Absoultly ESSENTIAL to security efficiency and continuity of safe browsing in my usage and view.

Have you or @luetage receive any feed back or seen any progress or development form your previous request?

Its now October 2021 and I am shocked to see that i can find very little so far from my searching the forum of such a critical feature.

I like Vivaldi so much, however, there are about three other crucial features would make it absolutely efficient and optimal and seem not to workagainst features which prioritize “privacy with ease intent” of the whole browser system of both the desktop and Android versions. Firstly a native cookie manager which is consistent for both desktop and Android and can synchronize across Desktop and Andriod versions. Secondly the ability or option to clear or not keep closed tab history (desktop) and download history (desktop and Android) 3. Option to enable clearing all specified data on exit in the desktop version just as has been achieved on the Andriod version.

It's april 2023..... 3 and half year later.... and still no whitelist for cookies.... I am boyond speechless on how a simple but crucial feature like this is not yet available in the main settings. I was interested in using Vivaldi as my main browser but at this point I think there are some deep deep problems inside the development team that make me question the entire project.
I really hope they will solve their problems one day, but in the meantime I'm going to use another browser.

@sirius23 You can already delete all cookies on exit. What’s also possible is deleting cookies before exit and leaving cookies for regularly used sites intact. I don’t intend to say the request is done by any means, but the current status isn’t as bleak as you make it out to be. Grab your towel, don’t panic.
