Use larger better quality icons on Start Page
-
Currently my Start Page (synced from desktop) contains large tiles containing small and very ugly icons.
Please make Vivaldi use the larger and high-quality site icons when available, like "og:image" or "apple-touch-icon", or the high-quality "icon" resource, it will look much better
Or if no icons are available, use the same as Opera, a screenshot or a single letter for page icon.
Examples:
<link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/wp-content/themes/rps-2018/images/favicons/favicon-196x196.png" sizes="196x196" /> <meta property="og:image" content="https://gfx.nrk.no/MypkihdsBkCYb-cXvwW8BgLqqp7OO7Fkyj8B_mXoY4Ew" />

@Pathduck I think fetching bigger images is a nice idea, but should be kept optional for a single reason: not everyone will like to see bigger and smaller icons at the same page. (I'm thinking more to people without customized dials)

Indeed, getting
<meta property"og:image">
orapple-touch-icon.png
is an awesome idea for a better Speed Dial design. The screenshots are cool, but they make the Speed Dial screen cluttered very easily.

Is it possible to use the same icons used for Bookmarks? I went to the bookmarks manager and updated icons. These are simple and already associated with the websites. Is there a security issue?

@mchipeur The thumbnails used donโt have the quality to be displayed much larger.

I'm glad I searched before suggesting this feature. The option to use a favicon, especially the ones used for iOS devices at larger sizes would be great. Those can be up to 512x512, if not larger. Or yea, use the Open Graph image as well.
I went through and manually created thumbnails for my own because screenshots of websites are hardly distinguishable at the sizes they're shown.
Another possibility that's slightly off-topic: let people customize what area of the webpage is used for the thumbnail.

The new start page layouts for vivaldi mobile now have better handling, in some cases using icons, in some cases using a text based logo: https://vivaldi.com/blog/vivaldi-3-4-android/
