Middle Click does not "open in new tab" in some cases

  • Could someone please double check this for me. On the following page: http://triton.ironhelmet.com/#help_intro please scroll down to the first link: "Read more about Diplomacy and Trade." If I middle click on this link it does not, as middle-clicked links normally do for me, open in a new tab. However, if I right click and choose "Open link in new tab" then it does. I'm sure I have experienced this in other browsers. Is this by design? I would rather middle click behaved identically to the right click option.

  • Came here to start a post about this! I'm loving Vivaldi, but some things are pretty anoying, like this 'bug'.

    Please fix it ;)

  • The middle click works for me. What didn't work was the link posted for Iron Helmet. Your link kept bringing me to "http://triton.ironhelmet.com/#landing". I manually entered the "#help_intro" and then middle clicked on Diplomacy & Trade and it brought me right to it.

    I am using Vivaldi 1.0.233.3 x32 on a Win 7 x64 home built machine.

I just tested in Chrome and Opera - the same behaviour applies there too. So, it's inherited behaviour, so not originally Vivaldi's fault. That said, I would look to them to improve this situation over Chrome et al. Perhaps I'll look for this problem over at the Chrome forums.

I suspect that might be because I have an account and am logged in. Never-the-less, the same behaviour is exhibited by links on that page too.

  • Playing around in Chrome has revealed something else: right click on a link also functions like a left click. It's as if the page has a setting "treat all clicks as a left click". I suspect that this is to keep the user experience between device types the same. That said, I should be permitted to override this… Whenever a site attempts to circumvent convention, I should be able to say "NO"!
