@kallon Hello there,
As a volunteer, who check the forum, I haven't seen topics concerning whatsapp. Please: https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/?lang=en
You will be given a number. Please, post it for our follow up. Thx -
Yeah, from what I understood after the fix in 2.5, WhatsApp in the web panels was still a known issue. The fix was aimed at "normal" tabs.
So I assumed there was no need for a new bug report. But maybe I was wrong?
Does anybody with access to the bug tracker know if there is still an open ticket about WhatsApp Web inside the web panels?It "can" work with a few workarounds, though... (switch from desktop to mobile. After a reload, it won't work again --> switch back to desktop, and then again to mobile. And so on...)
-
You don't need to do the long "show desktop version -> show mobile version" workaround.
First do this one-time setup:
- Add web.whatsapp.com as a web panel.
- Set the web panel to "Show desktop version".
- Click 'Home' in the web panel.
- WhatsApp now shows the "Please update chrome" page.
Then every time you see "Please update chrome", just:
- Right-click the WhatsApp page.
- Click "Reload".
Now Whatsapp Web should load normally.
This works for me in three different installations of Vivaldi (running 2.6 or 2.7).

Good! I will tag the topic as resolved.

@lamarca Please, don't.
I think it's a good thing to keep attention on this topic until it is really and properly solved, ie VB-33103 is fixed. (thanks @Gwen-Dragon by the way)
-
@Guilimote I agree, there's only an annoyng workaround, the problem is not solved at all.
-
@iAN-CooG seems whatsapp is acting again....can't enter on latest snapshot, i think it must have been something they changed...
-
@Gwen-Dragon That worked thanks...

Whatsapp doesn't work for me again in latest snapshot (2.7.1609.4 64-bit). Neither Home or Reload buttons solve this. Restarting browser doesn't help. It doesn't work in both panel and in normal tab. I tried running Vivaldi with this parameter
--user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/76.0.3809.87 Safari/537.36"
which should be latest UA for Chrome according to this website but it still won't load Whatsapp web. It always just displays message that Whatsapp works with Chrome version 49 and newer.
-
@Gwen-Dragon Oh, okay.
But I'm confused either way.
It doesn't work in normal tab too when using command line parameter.
I tried user agent switcher extension with exactly same UA and it opened Whatsapp web without problem.
But my user agent was detected exactly the same on whatismybrowser.com website using both methods.
I'll just wait until tomorrow, maybe I'm missing something because I'm too tired or it's just some temporary glitch and it'll start working again. -
I'm new to Vivaldi, and just encountered this problem. Yesterday, WhatsApp Web worked in a panel. After today's update (3.3.2022.45) it doesn't load. I just get the main WhatsApp page. I can load it in a tab, though.
Edit: After setting the panel to "Show Desktop Version" and hitting Home in the panel, all is working. I thought I had done this before posting, but apparently not.

@Dostoevsky Welcome to the forum and enjoy Vivaldi Browser & Vivaldi for Android.
Currently Web Panels are unable to download, it's a known issue and the dev's are working on it.

@Komposten THx U so much!
