Vivaldi 2.6 RC 1 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1566.31

First time I opened this build… I did this:
ctrl+t (to open a new tab)
type "sez" (without "")
CRASH
(still I can not reproduce it).Anyway, there is a bug I find a huge REGRESSION:
Most of the previous visited pages are not being autocompleted (when using the address bar to forward to a specific site like google.com ) and it just force me to search the term.Though, the address is still in the recently visited sites and I can move to it directly using the dropdown. But no autocomplete.
Even if I type "google.co" it will not try to autocomplete to google.com … I must type it entirely.
Know or not? This one started with the previous build and needs to be fixed before final.

@ahoj1234 No such problem here.
What do you have checked in Settings, Address Bar?
Specs: AMD A10-6800K, 8 Gb on Win 10 64-bit 1809 build 17763.557 • Snapshot 2.6.1566.31 (64-bit)

@pesala: I did not have ticked the "include frequently visited pages". I did not make any changes for ages in those settings…
Anyway, I ticked also the frequently visited pages… yet no change. Only some pages are autocompleted…
When I type start typing "g", it shows me github.com… when I add "go", it shows me "goal.com" When I continue with "goo" it does nothing… I even can finish the "google.co" and still nothing… Even the "google." does not add "com" as it should according to settings…This apply for other examples, too… Not only google is affected… almost every most visited pages by me are not being autocompleted.

Still crashes on MacOS (since about 2 versions ago). The last console message is:
FATAL:gpu_data_manager_impl_private.cc(897)] The display compositor is frequently crashing. Goodbye.
Quick googling show that it might be related to latest Chromium or how it is packaged.

@gwen-dragon: I don't know what would be the steps to reproduce. But whenever it crashes I press "Send logs to Apple" button with a brief description of what was happening prior to crash; do you have access to those?
-
@xtremalraven: Random thread on the interwebs ( https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/18066 ) suggested that adding
--no-sandbox
to command line helps. Tried it: so far so good. -
@gwen-dragon: Thanks. Ok, I guess I'd need to rollback to 1554.13.
And I guess it's a serious regressions since 2.5 stable.
-
@ruario: I apologize. I'm used to pages citing that directly under photos or indicating with a notation that the citation can be found elsewhere.
-
@ahoj1234 I can not confirm.
-
@XtremAlRaven Re: the compositor crashing errors, did you change any of the underlying Chromium flags and if so, have you tried resetting them back to their defaults?
I also wouldn't downgrade Vivaldi unless you're prepared to rebuild your Vivaldi installation from scratch. If the profiles (databases and configuration files) are not compatible, you'll likely end up with a Vivaldi installation that's either unstable or crashes constantly for no apparent reason.

Every once in a while I still get a total browser hang using Find in Page. I seem to remember that this was a bigger problem a while ago.
It's rare. Happens maybe once a week. It doesn't crash. But the whole browser becomes unresponsive. Even after using the kill command, which causes the browser to appear closed, a bunch of Vivaldi processes remain in my system monitor. I have to kill the vivaldi-bin process to get everything finally closed.
This isn't just an issue with this snapshot, it's been going on for a while.
I'm on Linux Mint 19.1

WhatsApp web still shows the "You must upgrade Chrome" message when put in a web panel. It goes away (and WhatsApp functions normally) until you restart the browser/unload the panel if you press the reload button (not the home button).
(Tested on both Win 10 1803 and Zorin OS 15.)

@newscpq I'm not sure if I can:
- I open my main profile and then another profile (never use multiple windows for the same profile, so don't know if it's caused by profiles or windows)
- when I close the second profile's window it sometimes crashes (the main profile closes with ~1s delay, on next startup both profiles open), sometimes it's OK

I can not confirm.

Hmm with this particular build sometimes when I close a private window containing tabs while I also have already some tabs opened in a regular window, the whole browser closes, both windows. (I could assume it is a crash too, but without any OS error report). I 'll check the crashpad folder next time it happens, cause strangely enough there are many .dmp files in that folder around the same time @23:50 a couple and @23:52 one more.
Also it crashed one time when I tried maximizing a video or trying to fly to a random time in the video.
-
@npro If you are having crashes randomly, file a bug. You will get an e-mail attach the crash log.

Exactly that happened for me yesterday. It shocked me, coz i thought this bug was fixed long ago.

@Steffie I've had a bug open for this issue for a while now (VB-51026) but it's one of those weird glitches that doesn't reproduce consistently.
