Close Tab Activation - Activate New Tab
-
Currently, as of the time of writing, the Settings > Tabs > Close Tab Activation option list includes the following options:
I suggest adding an option "Activate New Tab".
This option would change the behavior such that when a tab is closed, the browser opens a new Start Page tab (unless of course there is already one open) and switches to that tab.Personally, I would find this very useful. Currently, I tend to always keep one Start Page tab open, and click on it before closing whatever tab I was just on. This makes it impossible for me to use things like tab gestures to close tabs. The reason I do this is to prevent the browser to start opening a hibernated tab or one that is process-intensive when I close the current tab. There is not an indicator to show which tab will be the one the browser navigates to when the current tab is closed, so the best solution for me, if I don't want to start loading a page that is hibernated by accident, is to keep navigating to my Start Page tab before closing any tab. (Loading a resource-heavy hibernated page (like a fandom wiki page) on a low spec pc, especially while other intensive processes are running (like video games), can take several minutes to be able to stop and resume normal activity.)
What this option would do for me and anyone else in my position who has a low spec pc or is a frequent hibernate tab user, is allow us to use features like gesture tab close, close hotkeys or even just the tab X button without worrying about accidentally opening a hibernated tab, which is a problem all of the current tab close options have.
