Enable MHT file reading
-
Hi all!
Have you guys heard about the Windows Step recorder.
It is a very convenient tool located in C:/Windows/system32/psr.exe that allows to record issues, bugs and tutorials to be easily shown to other users. See this video by Thiojoe it is much clearer when seeing it in action.This program outputs MHT files (compressed in a zip file) which corresponds to a MHTML file. Although the Vivaldi browser is now capable of saving web pages as mhtml (and therefore open and read them), it looks like it can not read those MHT files, and thus, even after changing the extension to MHTML.
I am not sure why so: which could be the differences between the outputs of the Windows PSR and Vivaldi's mhtml files. But it would be very convenient for Vivaldi to be able to read those files, to finally get rid of Internet Explorer once and for all.
Hope to be taken into acount!

@antoine-luboz Good find.
I think that's definitely a bug more than a missing feature. You could file a bug report for vivaldi, but I'm not sure how much good it would do, as it doesn't work in chrome either.
This means something is broken in the engine itself, and usually it's up to the chrome devs to deal with those types of bug.
If you're looking for an alternative to internet explorer that can still read the files in the meantime I would suggest classic opera v12.18. I tried to find a working copy of an installer, but couldn't unfortunately.

Try the FTP Server where you can find versions for lots of Operating Systems.

Have you tried opening the file with notepad or internet explorer ? It looks fine and clear to me but i'm not a computer expert...
If chrome can't open it either isn't it a missing "feature" altogether with chromium ? How come the mht and mhtml are different ? I think it was the same type of file, it's even labelled as mhtml in the windows 10 explorer. -
@antoine-luboz I did just that. I opened it and tried to see what could have posed a problem. I ran it through a validator, and fixed the 1 issue it found, and the mht still wouldn't load.
I also can't see any errors being given as it reads the file. It's all very strange.
