Error 404 google sync tab keeps opening

  • I didn't used to have this problem. I don't know if it is related to recent updates I made.

I updated to 2 different vivaldi updates in the last week or 2.. not sure the numbers but whatever the last 2 were.

This problem I'm had within this time period but I do not know if it started immediately after one of the updates or not - so I don't know if it is update related.

But every time I open Vivaldi (I mean Vivaldi has been exited and then the next time I launch it)

It will restore my old tabs (which is good) but also a tab that I've closed a million times before.. this one:

    Error 404 (Not Found)

@dalinar thanks for reporting this issue and sorry for the trouble.
We need more technical details about it, would you please report it here: vivaldi.com/bugreport so that we can try to reproduce it?

Once you've done it, please share the VB-number here so I can follow it up internally. 🙂

Lastly this issue is related to Sync I'm moving this topic from Vivaldi browser for Windows to Sync.

Bug is VB-53397 "404 google sync tab keeps opening"

  • note: I don't know if it matters at all but I have 2 profiles... however, I was using them since before vivaldi supported profiles in the UI...

this problem is only occuring in the last week or 2 though.

but anyhow I do not know if profiles are sync related or not though but just FYI... it says Person 1 when I click the grey person button and "You" is the only thing listed under "Manage Profiles".. since I haven't had the time to try to import my profiles yet... I just launch them via the command line.

  • @gaelle Not sure this is related, but I see that 404 page often. Never on a normal startup, but occasionally, randomly, when I hit various key combinations like Ctrl+T. Instead of opening what I expect, Vivaldi opens a new window, about 1/4 of full screen size and half-hidden off the right edge of the screen, with the default speed dial in it - which I never use, I'm set to always show my own homepage. And in the original window behind there it opens the 404 page. I close them and it seems fine again.

No idea how to reproduce that at will, and it is pretty hopeless as a bug report so probably not worth bothering. But maybe someone else will recognize this...

Is there any way to search existing bug reports for similar events?

No, sorry for you. The Bugtracker is internal.

You are right, if you can't give a step-by-step description, it is not reproducible for devs and internal testers and may result in closing the reported issue.

Perhaps something is broken in these profiles.
Please try to reset your profile.

  • @Gwen-Dragon that sounds really drastic. I'm afraid with resetting I might lose something, settings, history or something else I depend on. I was just mentioning the fact so people investigating are aware of my setup.

How? Which paramameters do you use?
What happens if you start Vivaldi with
    vivaldi --disable-sync --disable-extensions

    that sounds really drastic.

But if some data is broken and Vivaldi tries to load Google' sync, you need to test with a refreshed or new profile.

May be you have some extensions or settings for startpage, new-tab page and home page which may cause such issue. I only can guess.
