Error 404 google sync tab keeps opening
-
I didn't used to have this problem. I don't know if it is related to recent updates I made.
I updated to 2 different vivaldi updates in the last week or 2.. not sure the numbers but whatever the last 2 were.
This problem I'm had within this time period but I do not know if it started immediately after one of the updates or not - so I don't know if it is update related.
But every time I open Vivaldi (I mean Vivaldi has been exited and then the next time I launch it)
It will restore my old tabs (which is good) but also a tab that I've closed a million times before.. this one:

@dalinar thanks for reporting this issue and sorry for the trouble.
We need more technical details about it, would you please report it here: vivaldi.com/bugreport so that we can try to reproduce it?Once you've done it, please share the VB-number here so I can follow it up internally.
Lastly this issue is related to Sync I'm moving this topic from Vivaldi browser for Windows to Sync.
-
note: I don't know if it matters at all but I have 2 profiles... however, I was using them since before vivaldi supported profiles in the UI...
this problem is only occuring in the last week or 2 though.
but anyhow I do not know if profiles are sync related or not though but just FYI... it says Person 1 when I click the grey person button and "You" is the only thing listed under "Manage Profiles".. since I haven't had the time to try to import my profiles yet... I just launch them via the command line.

@gaelle Not sure this is related, but I see that 404 page often. Never on a normal startup, but occasionally, randomly, when I hit various key combinations like Ctrl+T. Instead of opening what I expect, Vivaldi opens a new window, about 1/4 of full screen size and half-hidden off the right edge of the screen, with the default speed dial in it - which I never use, I'm set to always show my own homepage. And in the original window behind there it opens the 404 page. I close them and it seems fine again.
No idea how to reproduce that at will, and it is pretty hopeless as a bug report so probably not worth bothering. But maybe someone else will recognize this...
Is there any way to search existing bug reports for similar events?
-
@Gwen-Dragon that sounds really drastic. I'm afraid with resetting I might lose something, settings, history or something else I depend on. I was just mentioning the fact so people investigating are aware of my setup.
-
If there is no publicly seen bugtracker in Vivaldi, can someone tell me what to do with this error. Every time I start Vivaldi, it opens a new tab with this error.
-
@DorkMike if you figure it out, let me know - it annoys me too...
-
I think what is happening is that you have an extension that uses google sync to sync or back up its data. In my case, it is the Incredible Start Page, and although I do not have it set up to sync, it expects sync so it checks for it causing that tab to open. In chrome it just does it in the background, but in Vivaldi it spawns that tab which it cannot resolve properly.
-
@iskios This was the case for me. After disabling the Google Translate and Keep extensions the issue was resolved. Disable all plugins and use the process of elimination to root out the extension attempting to sync.
-
but can we use those extensions then afterwards? they are kind of important extensions
-
Hey, OLDPOST, I know. Wanted to report this still occurs, removing Google Keep extension cured it for me. Thanks to iskios and sunlightmaggot for their year ago posts.
-
removing google keeps "fixes" the problem, but without having google keep installed anymore - it is not a real solution

Maybe you will find alternatives to this Google Services on this page, f.Exmpl.https://joplinapp.org/ -
@dalinar
Hi, I use Google Keep in a web panel, works fine.Cheers, mib
-
I get the exact same thing - B-53397 "404 google sync tab keeps opening" - I always have last session restore and get that extra tab with the same error 404
-
@jsfrenchfl Thanks! Got the 404 error, removed google keep, and now it's fine again.
