Local storage of sync data
-
Hello everybody.
I did a search on this topic and found nothing. If it still exists, please merge or delete. Please let me know.For now, I am happy that it is now possible to save the settings of Vivaldi.
What I'm not happy about is that this data can not be stored locally.I am aware that the passwords then can not be used for another installation.
I do not care, because I'm using Keepass anyway.Proposal:
One way of selecting to save the sync data by checkbox on a drive, or in a location of my choice.I do not want to be forced to store my data in one place, which is beyond my control.
(No, I'm not on Facebook either and I'm spreading my life out there )Because I'm from Germany, please excuse my maybe a bit bumpy English.

@Summerbreeze If you want to have a local backup of Vivaldi data then see
https://help.vivaldi.com/article/full-reset-of-vivaldi/ -
It's not just about me.
Even though you may not be able to imagine it.
There are also users who do not want to drive an extreme effort. Or they just can not do it, but just want to have such a storage option.
In the German Vivaldi Forum there were already discussions about it.By the way: The folder "User Data" likes to have 1 GB or more.
Even with very good compression, 400 MB or more is left over.
That can certainly work better.Quote from your link:
IMPORTANT This article is for advanced users.
Following the steps described here will result in losing all your Vivaldi data (Notes, Bookmarks, Web Panels, etc.) and settings, such as cache, history, themes and so on. -
@Summerbreeze You only "lose all your data" if you perform the reset (delete the Default folder).
To do a backup just copy the folder (or just copy the relevant sub-folders to save space, e.g. no point saving cache folders).You missed the quote
you can make a backup of the profile folder, which includes some key elements of your Vivaldi setup, such as preferences, profile and settings.

I do not want a backup!
I would like to have control over my data and the simple possibility to save the complete settings (without passwords) locally.
Without sync.
And after my choice, by a USB stick, or whatever, transfer to another computer or user account.Is that so hard to understand?

@Gwen-Dragon
Thanks Gwen.
At least one who understands me. -
@Gwen-Dragon IMO Docker image with everything included "out of the box" hosted on DockerHub would be great idea
It is really portable and universal format nowadays. -
@Summerbreeze What you're describing, it seems to me, is that you want a portable version of Vivaldi: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/24482/portable-version?page=1
If that's the case, you might consider casting your vote for that feature request too...

@gwen-dragon Hi, Where can I find VB-6073 and VB-18821?
I'm waiting unpatiently couple of years for sync with an own server or local file. -

OK time to revisit this. It's pas time we be able to chose to sync online or locally instead. I myself would prefer to sync locally rather than online.
