Vivaldi Browser Crashing When Opening
-
Hello, I'm running Vivalidi 2.5 on a Macbook Pro running Mac OS Sierra (10.12.6). I used the "add page to web panel" feature in Vivaldi to add a webpage (Twitter) to my web panel, and I got the beach ball in my browser, which then crashed. Since this event, I have been unable to open my Vivaldi browser without it immediately crashing. (1) I tried uninstalling Vivaldi and reinstalling, but this didn't help the problem. (2) I also tried using Time Machine to restore an older version of Vivaldi but ran into the same problem. (3) I also tried going into the Library>Application Support>Vivaldi>Default and deleting the "Last Tabs" and "Last Sessions" files, but that didn't solve the problem either. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to restore Vivaldi? Thanks!!!

@mjhill02 If added Twitter on Web Page Vilvaldi will crash every time.
My tip is: Turn the Network Off, start Vivaldi, remove TW from web panel, restart the Network. Did it work for you? -

@TbGbe Also reported via BTS.

@lamarca Hi Larmaca, Yes. Turning off my network connection did the trick! I was able to reopen Vivaldi with the network off and remove the Twitter from the web panel. I then turned the network back on and no more crashes. I'll be more careful in the future about the links that I add to the web panel!!

Thank you TbGbe. I searched the forum for browser crashes but missed the post about Twitter as the culprit. I'll be more careful in the future. Thanks for your post!

@mjhill02 You are welcome. In this case, it's Twitter issue.

I'm experiencing a crash too. I tried the workaround, but it still resulted in a crash.
-
@AltCode I also tried the workaround. Even when opening Vivaldi off of my network it crashed almost immediately.
-
same here in linux. opening with network disconnected it still crashes.
I backed up my profile, totally deleted it, and then gradually returned all the bookmarks/addons etc
would be helpful if we could locate the specific file that deals with sidebars and just delete that from our profiles.
-
@Dimspace YES! Finding that file would be super helpful.

I am sorry the Network off not working anymore. The Dev's are taking care of the bug.

i dug through.
I compared my working vivaldi install with a crashing one using grep -rnw '/home/dim/.config/vivaldi/' -e 'mobile.twitter'
The only incidents of "mobile.twitter" in my borked install compared with working install was in /home/dim/.config/vivaldi/Default/Network Persistent State and /home/dim/.config/vivaldi/Default/.com.vivaldi.Vivaldi.jsfLeG
in each instance removing line involving twitter had no effect.
So I cannot actually find in any other config file a mention of twitter

@lamarca Can you please tell us which file(s) or folder(s) we can delete on our hard drives to remove the Twitter web-panel extension? I'm working on a Mac (OS 10.14.4), and it sounds like @Dimspace is using linux.
I don't know the file name.

@Dimspace I've also been doing digging. I deleted two folders with "TW" in the foldername, and then edited the CodeResources file to remove the chunk that looked to those folders in addition to a chunk that referenced "twitter". The browser opened for longer than before, but still crashed too quickly for me to edit the web panel. This happened both connected and disconnected to my network.

Thanks for reaching out and sorry for all the trouble.
This issue was fixed today as mentioned on Vivaldi's blog.
Please update download Vivaldi to the latest version here.
