Use Chrome Web Store extensions in Vivaldi browser

Not a recursive sorter but a sorter. -
@stardepp: this is actually a very good rss reader. See what I mean whenI said chrome extension store sucks. I didn't find this when I was searching for rss reader and I tried many different rss readers to see which one I like and I didn't see this one

"Some can turn out to be malicious or buggy." Or not work at all as third party developers will not support anything but Chrome (i.e. IBM Security Rapport) what my banking establishment wants me to use.
I have written the IBM Security Rapport support site several times but they just tell me to use a browser on their "Supported List". -
thousands of severely limited extensions, even WE API is less crippled (though still next to useless)
-
@stardepp: it's big but lacks one very basic thing: middle clicking on a title in article list to open in new tab... actually some views even have this but still dev implies it's impossible to do, that's why I had to fork SmartRSS
due to google shenanigans I'm unable to post it in chrome store and to make it even more funny chropera fails to moderate my submission for idk, like 10 weeks now? or even more -
Does Vivaldi update extensions automatically?

I would blame them more than IBM who have just provided an extension for a browser.
-
@sdtbluethink If they are from the Chrome store: Yes.

It is IBMs fault because for some it doesn't even work in Chrome, probably the associated software is c**p.

All I have to say regarding this article: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/32303/better-extension-support-in-vivaldi
-
Installing extensions manually (dragging .crx file onto the extension page) doesn't work, even if I pack it using Vivaldi.
-
@thomassawyer Enable developer mode, I just tried ScriptJaeger from its github
https://github.com/An-dz/ScriptJaeger/releases/tag/v0.5.1
and it's installed. I manually update several of my extensions weekly and it's working for me. I'm using Vivaldi 2.5.1525.4, you? -
@mossman I think you missed the point,
It is not the bank, it is the extension developer that will only develop for IE/Edge, Firefox, and specifically Chrome. -
@zakius: There are many smartrss clones on chrome store, but they all lack certain features or buggy so I didn't like them
-
@zakius: try zebra rss
I think Zebra Rss and Feedbro are the only good RSS reader on chrome store right now -
@zakius You can open in Feedbro by left click article in a new tab. if this has put thus:

But it's the bank's fault for insisting that users must install a particular third-party extension. That is terrible policy!
Did no-one else go through the crappy years when certain institutions which should be accessible to all (banks, government, schools) would only work with e.g. Internet Explorer 4 and Flash? It's just the wrong way to do websites!

The bank chose to do this to their customers. They didn't have to, and they should have checked IBM's offering was universal (and secure and functional) before buying it.

"Much as we love extensions, our philosophy will always be to give you a browser that doesn’t need them"
Good Philosophy!
-
@mossman You have a point, but all banks here ask users to use this extension for there protection and I chose to so. In the end it is a developer's decision whether or not to develop separate strains for each and every browser available. I am not defending them but I do begrudge them not supporting Vivaldi or any other Chromium browser.
If I have to use FF to do my banking for now then I'll do that. No big deal.
The extension also does not work with Tor, Seamonkey, PaleMoon and many others. I am not even sure they support Safari although they do support other browsers on Mac.
Also, as far as I Know, they do not support any browsers on Linux and have no intentions of developing an extension for Linux browsers.
The extension protects users of over 380 banking and financial institutions (from the Bank of America to Zions Bank sites) and many small Credit Unions with the ability to add custom sites of your own.Perhaps with MSEge moving to a Chromium base it will be easier to port it to Vivaldi.
