Media Keyboard Keys Compatibility
-
Keyboard with media keys somehow have no function built-in for any web browser. Would be amazing to see native support for this as most, if not all, extensions don't play well with vivaldi in handling this.
Seems these days, there's more reason to need media keys in the web browser than local applications. -
Great request, thanks for sharing it.
Just in case, which operating system do you use? -
I use Windows 10 Pro, x64
EDIT: If I were to be a little more specific, I have to use Chrome for an extension to work called Media Hot Keys (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/media-hot-keys/phfkfpipmomjaphlhogmdmcjgmiimend)
This actually allows me to control something like Pandora even if Chrome isn't my active window, so I don't have to switch windows if I want to skip a song or pause/play.Sadly, this is the only reason I can't uninstall Chrome yet.

The media keys on my keyboard (play/pause, next, previous, stop) seem to work with Vivaldi now - I don't know for how long they did because I have only noticed it recently... I haven't seen anything about it in the changelog, so maybe it's a new chromium feature? Or did I miss something?

@pafflick It is not reliable. The back button on my Dell Multimedia Keyboard works, but the forward button does not. The Home button goes to the Start Page, not to my default Home page (which is a local text file).
-
@Pesala I'm referring only to the media control buttons (audio/video playback controls), I don't have other media keys (such as the "home" button for example) to test, unfortunately. For me, they work reliably. Have you tried using the forward button in a YouTube playlist for example?

Yeah...it definitely didn't work before and now it does, lol.
And that wasn't you guys adding it? -
Just something of note: Seems only Play/Pause button works.
-
@KSB What keyboard do you use? For me, all of the media (playback) buttons work - providing that there is "eligible" content available, like eg. another video that you can skip to / go back to...
I tried the Spotify web player and the media buttons work exactly as they work in the desktop application. -
@pafflick Logitech G910 and the Next button seems to not work with Pandora.
-
Is there a way to disable the media buttons functionality for Vivaldi? I don't want my Play/Pause button to affect the browser.

@davetremblay Go to
vivaldi://flags/#hardware-media-key-handling
and set "Hardware Media Key Handling" to "Disabled" -
