How to separate work and play on the same PC
-
As long as I can't password protect my profiles (Master Password is better) then it doesn't really make a difference for me to use different profiles at home or work.
Simply using different folders for Bookmarks (Home & Work Folder) is enough for me. But a Master Password really gives me what I want: No one except me can access either profiles and I'm comfortable leaving my work PC just by closing Vivaldi since anyone who may start it has to enter a Password.

@ugly What OS are you on?
-
@olgaa: At work I have to use Windows 10.

I have been really hoping this feature would be implemented in Vivaldi. Thank you! I can now easily switch between the various AWS profiles I use at work, without constantly having to reauthenticate. That is awesome.
Is there a way to rename a profile? The existing profile is simply called "Person 1". I'd like to be able to change that.
Thanks for all your hard work!

@mikesigs search on the forum "rename a profile", this has been answered multiple times in the last days, even in the releases announcement blog posts.

@quhno: there's still a bug with the re-enabling auto-updater in combination with multiple profiles VB-37140

I know, I have confirmed it, but what can I do ...
... and there is a bug with profiles in general:
If you use e.g. the Guest Profile the Auto Updater gets activated for that version ... -
This is brilliant feature but I'm wondering if there's any keyboard shortcut to switch between profile? I've digging the help pages but no luck.

@ugly: The last open profile will be default. You can override this with using --profile-directory=<name>.
-
@neltherion: That would offer little security since anyone could still access they data inside the profile directory of your OS login. The secure way would be to use separate OS logins and switch between them. Applications will still continue running on each account (on Windows).
-
@sandalian: Not currently inside Vivaldi, no, but using the --profile-directory argument, you can do it on the OS level.

Hey there!
I have been really hoping this feature would be implemented. I use Vivaldi on my private and my work PC because it works just perfect. But could you please add the user profiles to the things that get synced over my Vivaldi account? I dont' want to have my private stuff mixed up with my work stuff. At first i thought that user profiles would do that for me but only if it's on the same PC.
Also i can't change the name of my first profile. It's called Profile1 and there is no way to change that.
Thanks for your work!

@fabianski
Hi, you have to set up a new Vivaldi account to separate privat from work data.
Change profile name in chrome://settings/manageProfile
Copy/paste in to the address field.Cheers, mib

I would like to see an option to choose the profile when i start vivaldi like so (https://i.imgur.com/Kbbjy8Q.png) now i need to exit the profile first before i can choose the other profile.

Is there a way to rename an existing profile? Couldn't find any

After having vivaldi reinstalled I thought about this feature. I came to the conclusion I would not use it for me:
I want all my data accessible at the same spots all the time, everything else would make me slower.
BUT: I will use it for "guests", that use my system (like wife, daughter, ...)

@pettern: I recently switched back to a Mac and started using Vivaldi. Is it possible to do this on a Mac? I created work and home accounts, but it defaults to my web browser for home in work and is rather distracting.

Does anybody uses profiles to separate work&home bookmarks but with one sync account? Or that isn't possible? Or maybe I want to use the feature wrong?
