Page not loading after switching tabs and then switching back
-
Hey guys, I have been having this issue since updating to 2.3.x I believe. I can't pinpoint the exact version, but I know it was a fairly large hop when I originally updated. It was working fine before hand. And, in hindsight, I just shouldn't have updated my Vivaldi. But now I can't remember the version where it was working. I have been going back and forth on posting this, but I just can't take it any more, and honestly, it seems worse now that I updated to 2.4.1488.35
Essentially, I have been trying to use Vivaldi for work, as some of the features make my workflow a bit easier.
In my job I need to use salesforce. I know that the URL changes, but the engine should still be the same.
It makes the workflow almost unbearable now.Summary of Issue:
When on Sales force tab and then opening up a new tab, or even just switching tabs, and then switching back to the sales force tab the SF tab shows up as a blank page. I can refresh all I want, but it will just stay blank. Once the tab has caught the 'bug' it will not alleviate. In other words, any future tab switching or opening causes the original tab to go blank. This only seems to be on SalesForce Pages, but since updating to 2.4 I noticed that it has been worse and other pages are "slow" to load, kind of acting like sales force does when it's breaking, but it eventually loads.
Temporary Workaround:
-
You can resize the whole Vivaldi browser. (sometimes crashes vivaldi all together)
-
You can hit F12 and then it will come back up. (found this through troubleshooting w/ console)
-
You can restore and maximize the browser, similar to clicking and dragging from full screen and snapping back to top of the monitor. -- Basically it just seems like a total adjustment of the browser seems to kick the "image" of the webpage back into gear.
As long as you don't leave the page, the web page remains loaded and good. But as soon as you switch tabs you lose it again and have to do the workaround again. -
A more permanent workaround is to clone the tab and close the "infected" tab. Then you can open up a new tab or switch tabs for a little while. That is, until you hit the trigger again. I am not sure what the trigger is, and I have been trying to narrow it down, but I cannot seem to do so. I will say it seems to do it more when I middle click on my mouse, a hyperlink on the side bar for a different case, and it opens a new tab.
Thoughts on Resolution:
- Not really sure, but it seems to be related to Java, just based on console output.
Troubleshooting:
- cleared cache
- updated vivaldi
- installed standalone version to test, and previous versions by a few versions.
- grabbed console output, see below.
- a few other things I cannot recall at the moment.
- I am on the 64bit install
Windows 10 64bit.
Some console output, usually it's only 1 or 2 lines.

Hi,
I reported similar sounding issues during the snapshots running up to the 2.4 release, hoping they would be fixed, but the bugs ended up slipping through anyway it seems.
For me, tabs that stay blank after switching eventually load, though my delay is on the order of seconds at worst. Closing and re-opening a tab fixes it for me.
It is most noticeable for me when I tile certain tabs like outlook or discord. I reported that bug as VB-50220. It still happens in the latest 2.5 snapshot unfortunately.

Hey Everyone
I have the same type of issue, immediately after switching tabs, the previous tab appears like it's a blank page.
I accidentally discovered a potential workaround, interacting with any Side Panels appears to "force" the page to render properly. I'd click on a panel like Bookmarks and then the page loads, or I can click on my custom web panel and the page loads. In addition, i noticed the page is technically loaded because if i mouse over certain parts of the page, I see the URLs changing on the bottom left, indicating the page is there, just not visually.
To confirm, I am on Vivaldi 2.4.1488.35
Looking forward to this issue being resolved, I hope my workaround helps.

Thank you for the reply! I usually just workaround using the method of cloning because otherwise, as soon as I switch tabs again it's back to being messed up. I will try the side bar though and see if that more permanently fixes it, like the clone does. Or if it follows the resize workaround that fixes it momentarily until you switch tabs again.

@LonM Thank you for the reply! I have definitely noticed them slowing down a bit. I will cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Has there been any movement on this. There has been a few updates to Vivaldi and still no mention of this.
It is still on going, and it seems to really happen / trigger upon clicking on links within the page that open a new tab. I noticed that as @LonM mentioned, other tabs are incredibly slow to load some times. I have been tempted so many times to go back to chrome. I really don't want to, but this workflow is killing me.Any help would be appreciated.
Also @AGoodGeek's workaround didn't work unfortunately. So i have stuck to cloning the tab and closing the old infected one.
Thank you again!
